Looking for STB that records TS as one file

I have been looking through the threads on various boxes but can't see any definite information on this subject .

I was wondering if anyone can tell me what boxes record onto an external hard drive as one continuous TS .

Both boxes that I have , Ariva 153 and Silvercrest currently do that , which is perfect for transferring over to my Laptop to play on VLC during breaks at work .

My setup is that my STBs are side by side and the Silvercrest is starting to fail .and I would like to replace it with a box that also records as one TS file .

Obviously another Ariva would be one solution except they all operate off a common remote control .

    So any other suggestions ?

Any enigma based box records to .TS format. Although it also generates other files for metadata you can use/copy the TS file by itself to another device without issue. The only possible restraint when copying is that a HD program longer than 1 hour can exceed the 4GB limit of fat32.

Presumably the enigma based boxes can write to ext formatted partitions which would overcome that limitation?

AFAIK It's only FAT32 that is limited. STBs can use NTFS or EXT. My only reason for mentioning it that some USBs come pre-formatted to FAT32 which could confuse some users.

    Thanks for the information .

Yes that 4GB limit is an issue with the Ariva as well . Luckily I don't record too many programmes that breach that limit .

Just to clarify, enigma boxes will create as big a file as it needs. E.G. a 2 hour HD movie could be an 8GB file. It is only when you try to transfer using a FAT32 USB would you have problems.

Just for information for others reading
... it is a simple matter to format that USB stick with NTFS or EXT which would overcome that Fat32 limitation.

It is possible to catenate files into one .ts file in linux and windows.
Otherwise NTFS supports larger than 4gb files as does ext3/4 filesystems.
