Just wondering if any of you could tell me what the job prospects are like for primary teaching at present?

Quite poor. Be prepared to send your CV to every school within your area, call in and meet principal if possible. Getting some subbing to build up your experience is essential. Permanent jobs that are advertised will normally have over a hundred good applications. You can get lucky, be in the right place at the right time , to get an extended run of subbing, but be prepared to be waiting for a phone call on a daily basis that might not come. It is sometimes a soul-destroying wait, but you have to persevere.

The proposed new model for SEN provision being rolled out in September 2017 will see many teachers lose jobs and go on the panel -that's those lucky enough to have panel rights. Those who don't have panel rights will be job hunting- so lots of qualified experienced teacher will be in the job market.

Perseverance. Students should be taught a module on it in every teaching college. The are going to need it. That's the reality.

Best to be realistic and go into the process with your eyes open.
