If you were to sum up your life in music what songs would you choose?

For me in my younger years it was Terry Jacks Seasons In The Sun. That song really spoke to me as a very lost child, I felt like the 'black sheep of the family' but in every area of life, family, school and friends. One of my parents passed away when I was very little so I felt I completely stood out from everyone else at school.

Now the years have passed, I still feel a little like a black sheep but I'm more comfortable in my own skin. However when I am feeling low Labi Siffre Something Inside So Strong saves the day! Especially at a high volume!

    What songs speak to you?

Or the original with Kate Bush.

If you want to get into it, you got to get out of it. (Hawkwind 1982)

For a song to give the feeling of the isolation and overdose of a junkie its got to be Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd.

If you want to get into it, you got to get out of it. (Hawkwind 1982)

Learning To Fly by Tom Petty, because my cousin and I grew up obsessed with learning to fly.

Far from my favourite song, but Cherish by Madonna has been playing in the background at more than one poignant moment in my life.

It's not a bad song, but it's a hoor for invoking bad memories for me.

Not so much song, as I hate the song but this stands out for me

So we open up a quarrel
Between the present and the past
    We only sacrifice the future
    It's the bitterness that lasts
So don't yield to the fortunes
    You sometimes see as fate
It may have a new perspective
    On a different day
And if you don't give up, and don't give in
    You may just be okay

Texas - Put Your Arms Around Me always reminds me of a brief and tempestuous relationship punctuated by frantic shagging.

It was a pretty bleak time for me in a way, but the memories that song engenders are actually quite warm.

This song tears me up always. It always reminds me of when I flew halfway across the world to see if the love we had online was true. Meeting my future wife over there was the first day of my life.

    We did this.
The logical song. Brings me back to when one idea of myself just ran out of road and a lot of thinking had to be done. That's music: says things about you better than you can yourself.

Awww that's lovely! It reminds me of a news story I read recently about a couple in their 80's who married recently, the wife said that he was worth waiting for!

The winter song by Sara Bareilles.

When my mother died this song was being played a lot at the time on the radio, it was a little over two weeks to Christmas at the time.
    It has the lyrics:
    December never felt so wrong,
'cause you're not where you belong.

It reminds me of all the Christmas cheer at that time and how I felt so miserable in December as others were all the happiness of the festivities leading up to Christmas.
It still makes me sad when I hear that song, even though I think it is a beautiful song.

This tune here from Burial. It was released a few Christmases ago around the time a good mate of mine past on. Towards the end of the tune 7.40 onwards the track gets unreal emotional, Burial samples and chops up the speech from a NASA scientist, the start of it where she says "This is the best way to go....." Floored me into absolute shivers then and it still does now. Real modern musical art. Genius.

I sing a lot, normally songs about riding, but my pal caught me singing this and informed me that I was in love. I hadn't realised it until that point.

The Living Years by Mike And The Mechanics
    "I wasn't there that morning
    When my father passed away
I didn't get to tell him
All of the things I had to say
I think I caught his spirit
    Later that same year
I'm sure I heard his echo
In my baby's new born tears
I just wish I could have told him
    In the living years"

My dad died suddenly in December 2010. I miss him so much and wish I had just another five minutes to tell him I love him.

    Let Her Go by Passenger
"Staring at the ceiling in the dark
Same old empty feeling in your heart
Cause love comes slow and it goes so fast
Well you see her when you fall asleep
But never to touch and never to keep
Cause you loved her too much and you dived too deep
Well you only need the light when it's burning low
Only miss the sun when it starts to snow
Only know you love her when you let her go"

Such a gorgeous song. It a reminder to not to take things for granted keep your eyes open and be thankful for who and what you have.

Far From Over by Frank Stallone
    "This is the end
You made your choice and now my chance is over
    I thought I was in
You put me down and say I'm goin' nowhere
    Save me darlin'
I am down but I am far from over
    Give me somethin'
I need it all 'cause I am runnin' over
Back in the race I'm movin' in
    'Cause I am getting closer
    I'm diggin' in
I want it more than anything I've wanted
    Save me darlin'
I am down but I am far from over"

I love this. It's really upbeat and strong don't give up kind of song.

Amazing song. Remember listening to it over and over years ago. The emotion in it is incredible.
    Only rivalled by Black.
