Buying a laptop - what brand to go for??

    Hi all,

    I am looking to buy a new laptop to replace my HP G61 - it's about 7 years old and has done me a great service.

    Is HP as good now as it used to be? What brand should I aim towards?

    I'm looking for good value, reliability and good build quality.

    Looking for:
    16/17 inch screen
    Numerical keypad
    Mouse pad with separate, individual buttons
    I'd like a backlit keyboard, but not essential

    Budget is flexible between 500 and 1100, but value and longevity are key

    I want a workhorse that will last several years, just like my HP did
