Perhaps the dates in the email you sent them were wrong or something small like that?

You shouldnt have picked up that last payment on the 22nd as you were technically in employment.

I know what its like having to do a week in hand and go a week without pay, its not easy. But im fairly certain thats why the the welfare office have been in contact with you

Aren't the payments on job seekers a week behind?

He might owe them a day.

I dont think they are a week behind but i'm open to correction.

When I got back working a while back they chased me for something like €30. I didnt collect when I shouldnt have. Would love to know how they came up with that figure :p

The welfare payments are paid a week in arrears, jobseekers payments at least.

If I genuinely felt like I owed them money I'd repay it. I just can't fathom how they've come to this figure and why since I informed them appropriately.

Possibly the payment you got included the Monday and Tuesday you were working? That would be 62.70

They claim I owe them e62.70. I honestly don't know where they're getting that figure.
    That's a third of €188. Guess they're claiming back for 2 days.

JSA is paid Wednesday - Tuesday.

You owe them for Monday and Tuesday.

It will remain with your PPS number until you next make a Claim and they can hold the money there from any payments.

A lot of misinformation on this thread, so this is the best op.

What to do is plainly let them recover the money through their own efforts, and get on with your job. Congrats on it. I wouldn't bust my bollix to fix them up for that amount, let them do the leg work, but you do owe it yes.

I'm not being on a high horse here but it's wrong to encourage people to keep money that they are not rightfully due. That's someone's hard earned cash you're talking about and now you're advocating more taxpayer money being spent trying to recover it.

Op you sound like you thought you were doing the right thing, engage with them and pay it back if due. Do you really want an overpayment on your record the next time you go in to make a claim? Good luck with the job.

    ^^^^^^
A drop in the ocean compared to the wage bill as it stands. Frankly, if you paid these people more than minimum wage they'd be vastly overpaid, but we do, so I suggest give as good as you get. It's not worth the op's time to be the hero here to save the state 60 quid. It's a drop in the ocean that ignores where the real saving is to be had here if we had the balls to stop politicising the issue and just pay these people what they are worth and work them harder and longer.

But that's a conversation for another thread and forum.

    Some seriously warped logic there.

Howya lads. So I was claiming the dole for a few weeks after I came home from abroad picking it up every Tuesday. I managed to get a job last week. I applied for the job on the 18th of November, got an email for an interview the same day and went for the interview the next day. I was offered the job the same day to start on Monday the 21st. I emailed the social welfare the moment I found out informing them of my employment and that I was starting on the Monday. Picked up my final payment on Tuesday the 22nd and thought of it no more.
Came home from work today to find a letter from the dole claiming that I was fraudulently claiming and working and that I owe them money. I did the right thing by informing them of my work through the link on their website. I did nothing wrong in my opinion but they are making out that I claimed some sort of fraud. Can I appeal it?

Fair enough if you got paid 2 days extra but the tone of the letter if your first post is accurate is disgusting.
Could they not have simple issued a balancing statement highlighting the fact that you were overpaid. How they could claim fraudulent claim is beyond me given that you gave them all dates and they issued the payment.

Receiving letter been accused of fraud is worse than owing 60e.

I got the same letter recently

I paid the money straight away by direct debit.

I had zero problems claiming, staff were always friendly and I was very, very grateful with how quick they were to get my claim set up and payments in hand.

I got paid two days extra when I had already started work. I was so happy to get back working I had no problems paying what I owed. While I was on the dole the state paid for training courses amounting to over 2500euro so I could upskill.

I might be entitled to that but I am very grateful for it all the same.

I guess it depends on your attitude as to how you look at it.
