new gas boiler or repair?

We have a potterton gas fired boiler, which heats both our hot water and rads. We are using "solo" rads which have built in fans and a small coil of hot water over which air is blown. These were installed when we built an extension around 2009/2010.

The boiler is only about 6/7 years old - installed at the same time as the extension.

We started having trouble with it this year - the boiler was not igniting to heat water only and we needed to turn on the rads as well to heat water. so we replaced the timer unit. That enabled us to start heating water again without the rads, but now we are having trouble with heating the rads.

Now we have moved into winter we have started turning on the heat. The boiler is constantly switching on and off when we are trying to heat the rads. We could look at replacing valves/motherboard but tbh at this stage we are inclined not to throw good money after bad, since we have spent a few hundred just months ago, and replace it altogether.

Are we being foolish - should we just try and repair it?

I would also be grateful for any recommendations as to which model boiled we should get next and indicative prices - which are the better brands? If it matters we live in pretty large dormer bungalow with about 12 of these solo rads, of various sizes.. We are in Dublin and on the gas mains.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Sounds like a circulation to issue. Solo rads have extremely small water pipes. If you've sludge or dirt in your system this could be the cause. There should be no need to replace a practically new Boiler
