    Hi All,
I have been reading through different threads and i'm beginning to get really confused so I thought i would put my question out there.

Firstly,I have an Honours Degree in Fine Art . I am considering going into secondary level teaching and would like to teach primarily Art but also a second subject :preferably English/History.

What do I need to do to? Do I register for a Higher Diploma in Arts and study English/History for that year and then continue into a Higher Diploma in Education?

You need to do a two year PME. Ucc and NCAD do the art PME. I would advise getting in to your PME and doing a higher diploma in arts in English( DCU oscail) either during the PME if you can afford or part time after. Job prospects for art alone is very poor(you are probably already aware of that) and you need a very core subject so English /Maths/Irish would be best. History wouldn't be a great add on in your position. My suggestion would be to add on subjects after your PME or before. It's an expensive process but if you left it to after the PME you could at least try to get sub work to keep you going.

Just an extra thought you might need to do an extra pedogogy for your extra subject should you add one one after the PME in art. So that's something to consider too. Have a look at the teaching council recognition of subject criteria too.
