I was reviewing my details on the PAYE portal and I decided to look at what occupations can claim flat rate expenses when I came across the following.

Journalists, including those in public relations area of journalism

Does this mean that people in PR or media relations can claim flat rate expenses?

Incidentally, I did submit a query to the Revenue this day last week but haven't heard back so was wondering if anyone else knew?

It means that Journalists in PR can claim flat rate expenses.

Are you a member of the NUJ?

I think that journalism is one of the flat rate expenses that matches professional body fees exactly and you cant claim it unless you are paying the fees.

Ah I see that makes sense. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

Just a quick update on this. I got a note back from the Revenue and they said I could claim flat rate expenses for when I worked in PR specifically. So there you go.
