Ok, so I moved from company car earlier this year and bought an S-MAX to keep me ticking over and wanted to check if I need a people carrier type vehicle. After driving it for last few months the answer is yes

So I am going to buy a 17 car and looking for options. So I was thinking of going with new S-MAX but they seem a bit high on price so just wondering what might be alternative

I am looking to still have the 3 car seats in back option the SMAX has so just wondering what are the options?

Is there a SMAX type vehicle available from other suppliers?

I am going to buy brand new and then keep for a long time....

What's your budget and spec requirements?
    E.g. Manual/auto?
    Essential extras?

Current SMAX is auto but not a big deal if not auto

Extra's really are cruise and bluetooth.....a iphone point.....

If included tinted windows but I have got them done myself on other cars

Peugeot 5008 is a fine car and there should be great deals on it as there will be a new one next year.

Opel Zafira Tourer is another good one and it might be cheaper than the S-Max.

Seat Alhambra is another you could look at.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

The older version 5008 and Zafira Tourer are a bit smaller in the back are they not?

No harm having a look at them to see if you like them and if they are roomy enough for you or not. Alternatively you could buy a nearly new or year old S-Max

Zafira is receiving a major facelift in the new year too. The Zafira is available as a full 7 seater too, it's called the Zafira Tourer and would offer similar space to the S-Max.

New Renault Grand Scenic is due in 2017 also. You also have the Citroen C4 Grand Picasso.

is there any website with details on these? found the new 5008 looks to be bigger and similar in size to SMAX I think

Previous 5008 shares the platform with the previous C4 Grand Picasso. The new C4 GP is much bigger than the older one - and the new 5008 will share the platform too.

But they are still a bit smaller than S-Max.

When it comes to websites: http://www.automobiledimension.com/car-comparison.php is a good place to start. But more details you'll get looking into manufacturers brochures.

They have released the new C4, might give it a bash tomorrow. I was aware the Peugeot and Citroen share the same platform. I didn't realize the new C4 was released already.

I didn;t like the older version but it might be worth giving it a spin.

It is interesting the market for these types of cars seems to be improving. There was very little options I felt earlier this year. Looking at what is coming out in next few months it is more interesting.....

It was released in 2013, getting just a facelift now.

Bought a Sharan for delivery next year. There really was very little options out there in terms of three individual middle row seats and a large boot for a double buggy. We were especially caught given how young our kids were and we'd have a lot more options in two or three years.

For us the integrated booster seats and the van doors were the selling points. Had a look at everything especially the S max and Galaxy and even their sales man was mystified as to why the smaller c-max has van doors and not the larger models - also no boosters. The Sharan is more than a bit dreary though, and it has an awful ****ing name. Actually preferred the look (and name) of its sister car the Alhambra, but the price was negligible between them once specced up and there should be better residuals with the VW (as well as having one or two extras). Having said that I expect both cars to no longer exist in two years.
