Replacing a battery for Renault Laguna

    Hi Guys -
The battery on my Laguna died and I'm trying to replace it with a new one, but I can't get the very tight nut from the positive terminal. I only have a small spanner.
Can someone please help me by telling me what kind of tool do I need to remove it?
It is also very difficult as the nut does not have much space between the nut and the battery. I think the size of it is 10mm, or perhaps 14mm.

I need the car for work, and it is a bit of an emergency.
Or can I call AA if I'm not a member and have them do it? Thanks.

Battery terminal nuts are usually 10mm
If you cannot get it loose, then some wd40 or penetrating oil.

Thanks for that, but the tool I have is an adjustable spanner and it won't grip the nut, because it's too thick. I think I need one of the tools that can get into tight spots - not sure what that one is called. It has two parts. Do you know what it's called?

There's the problem. Go to aldi, pick up the cheap but fantastic set of workzone combination spanners and throw that other lump of scrap away.

The amount of bolts and nuts I've seen rounded and had to sort because of those yokes makes my blood boil

If Aldi/Lidl isn't having a sale on tools, then any factors will have the 10mm.

And if you can't get the battery terminal undone what hope have you of getting to the clamp? A good 1/4 socket set will see you sorted

I have lagunas myself and every one of them was 8mm positive and 10mm negative. Dunno why. I know what ur saying about the accesss. Socket and ratchet is the easiest way.

Bmani, I got a socket and ratchet and you're right about the different sizes - it almost drove Me nuts ( joke intended). Thanks to all you guys for your good advice. It's all sorted now. All the best.
