Anywhere I can get a gaming laptop that isn't insanely overpriced?

So I've been looking at buying a gaming laptop that's reasonably priced and can run decently.
I've checked amazon and they're full of scammers and they seem to be aware of it cause I e-mailed them about it.
Any Irish websites seem to be way overpriced.
Anyone know of a place I could get one for cheap?

Buying wife this after a bit of research.

    She wants it for office.

    I might use it sometimes.

Pro not bad specs for a laptop.
    Cons weight, battery life.

    I got mine from https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/

4 years ago at this stage, but it still runs most new games (not at top spec obviously)
Still has 8gb and a decent mobile graphics card, i7 processor too.

I think it cost me 800 at the time.

You can configure your own laptop and they'll build it for you.

Seen pcspecialist trying to charge over €800 for a laptop with an intel i3 and 4GB RAM

I think that's a bit overpriced to be honest.

Well you never specified spec requirements but this is about as good as it gets. GTX1060, I7 and 8 GB of ram for 1300 EUR. Best deal I found when I was looking up a gaming laptop for a friend and it's honestly a steal as most 1060s are in the 1800+ range.

Best thing to do now is wait for 1050ti to be released in laptops.
1060 laptops would be the ones to go now as these gpus are pretty much same as you find in desktop. Its fantastic performance compared to desktop and old gen. Buying something with 960M is wasting your money with 1050ti being so close.

Tl:dr it's very bad time to buy laptop as they are not really budging the prices down enough on 970m and 960m ones.

Thanks for the advice. I'll definitely take that into consideration even though that may be a bit outside my budget.
Any idea when the 1050ti's are going to be on the market? I might wait until then to see if I can get something lower in price

What's the budget OP? South of a thousand you're better getting a €700 PC and a €300 laptop (imo, I'd no authorithy on laptops)

skinflint.co.uk with all stores turned on might be the fastest way to find anything

    This.

Budget laptops for gaming suck, unless you like playing at sub-console Low settings/framerates.

My budget is about 900-1000 but I could possibly go a small bit over that.

And whats the laptop for? Gaming and what?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11 kells117

Gaming and college work (Just basic Microsoft office stuff). I'm trying to get my PC sold so if I get that sold my budget will go up a bit.

So how against a €700 pc and a €300 or €400 laptop system are you? I know engineering students who can run their work off a €400 laptop and it'd be a lot more taxing than word if you're worried about the power behind it.

Could even upgrade your current PC if its not too old

To be honest I just don't want a PC anymore. When I have one I find myself being far less productive than when I just have a laptop so that's one of the reasons I only want a laptop.
I'm not looking to do insane gaming either. Medium graphics would satisfy me for most games.

Fair enough, waiting for 1050Ti based laptops is probably the best bet then, they should be landing in or around your price range

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11 kells117

Might do that, although I do need a laptop for college as soon as I can get one so hopefully I can get something that can at least play medium settings on games for €1000.

Buying in Ireland is extortion. Look abroad and for sites that you can ship to, but that will deliver to a PO box/pick up point in Ireland. Could be a lot cheaper

    Yeah true that.

I'm looking at the german sites and they're far more reasonable and it's easy to do with google translate.

You might be better off trying to buy used on that budget if you want a decent gaming laptop. Options below 1k are quite limited, laptop gaming is expensive!

Yeah I've been checking out adverts.ie and waiting for something decent to come up. Hoping I get lucky.

Geizhals is showing that the current best GPU in your price range is the GTX 960m, which is pretty low-end (afaik slower than a desktop GTX 750ti)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,930 ✭✭✭✭TerrorFirmer

Yes, there is a gap in the market now at the moment. GTX960M is a bad buy now in it's own price range with the 1050 so close, which will absolutely kill it and should be around GTX970M level performance for the same money.

However if you got a really good deal on a GTX960M, it's still a pretty OK performer in most of the latest games (1080p mix of low and medium).

The link says customs are cleared and included in the price...

    Import charges:
US $248.81 (amount confirmed at checkout)

You pay those upfront, the 'no additional import charges on delivery' means that you've already paid them and there are no hidden charges rather than not having to pay any charges.
