Hi all, I recently got engaged, and I'm wondering if it is possible to get an engagement ring made out of my mother and fathers wedding bands? If it's possible anyone know anywhere is Dublin or else where that would do it, and any experience of getting it done and the cost of such? I understand that jewels would have to be added etc.

Herself and her mother have dealt with http://www.aoifeomahony.ie when making new jewellery using old jewellery. Very very happy with the results.

    Good bit from Dublin though.

Friend of mine had two of her mothers rings combined to make her engagement ring and another ring also (by adding a saphire) for sentimental value as that was her mothers birthstone. She was ill at the time and has since passed away so my friend is extremely delighted with the extra meaning in her engagement ring.

She had them done here - http://www.tobinsjewelleryrepairs.ie/contact.php

AFAIK the place doesnt have a shop front so you'd probably need an appointment.

Stunning pieces and often re-models jewellery from older bits

PM me if you'd like further details

We used Michael Horan jeweler in Tullamore to make a matching wedding ring, but he does engagement rings too. He was great value, much cheaper than any store.

Thanks all for the responses. I really like Aoife o Mahony work, and think I might go with her. Bit of a treck but seems very nice etc in her responses.

I rand Michael Horans place also, and was told that no Mather what I wanted prices started at 2500 which I taugh was strange, as I kinda figured it would depend on what ya want etc.

And one any experience of the cost of getting pieces made? I don't want to spent too much as I don't really where jewerly, and I don't think I would be too comfortable with the price of some pieces.

I went to http://www.designyard.ie/ when I wanted an engagement ring made. All I hade was the main stone, and they gave me a few options based on budget. Very nice people to deal with.

My mom had jewellery melted down, the stones taken out and reused, and fashioned into new pieces by a jeweller on the main street in Dalkey, Dublin. I can't remember the name (I'm from Limerick and haven't been there myself). Is there just 1 jewellers around there? It's a place that has been there for years and years.

Also, my brother's wife had her engagement ring made and co-designed in Co. Clare, at the Goldsmiths in Ballycasey.

I believe both of the above were good value.

Could not recommend enough. Had an engagement ring made from family heirloom pieces which ended up being worth a lot of money, yet the ring only ended up costing around 500-600 and came with an appraisal for insuring it. The lads in there are great too, will always go back to them for anything related

My niece made me a nice eternity ring for the wife last year.

It valued at double what it cost me:)
