Has anyone experience with using ikeas delivery service?

We have a decent amount if large furniture to buy there , we would have to rent a van to bring it all home. IKEA deliver for 69e to our location - from what I see it's a flat rate that covers whatever you buy ( I could be wrong). If that amount covers everything it works out cheaper than renting a van for two days/diesel.

Has anyone experience with getting a large deliv Ray ( or any size!) from ikea? We will go there and pick out all the stuff then get them to deliver it.

It's cheaper if you pick it yourself, but that means literally picking— going to the warehouse area and pulling the boxes and putting them on the cart. Choosing it doesn't count! I think once you've pulled it all you can assign some or all of it for delivery— haven't done this personally, but I'm sure someone else can advise. AFAIR, if you don't do this, the picking cost is per item, in addition to the flat delivery rate, so it can end up being annoyingly expensive.

Aside from that, our experience was great. Stuff was delivered as promised, we got a call beforehand, and the various boxes for things were delivered to the requested rooms.

Make sure you have the list to hand of what you ordered when the delivery arrives so you can check you got all your packages. You can use your receipt, but I'd advise going on the site and writing down for yourself things like "Item / Code / X boxes" since it'll make the process a lot easier. I didn't do this last time, but I'll do it next time. Good luck!

Thanks for that - we had planned on doing the picking ourselves & taking smaller stuff home with us. We will have lots of things to get besides the large furniture items. Plus have to get the meatballs!

    We used it in July.
You have to pick yourselves. There's a plan to introduce a picking service but afaik it's not there yet. There are private operators who will do that for you. Fees are linked to cost of goods but it maxes out around €1000 so €4000 is the same fee as €1500, I.e. Worth making sure everything is bought in one go. We were at the max and it was about €100 in Dublin.

Delivery was grand, on time and efficient. Delivery slots book up so you might not get next day delivery if that's what you're looking for unless you go early. Delivery is arranged at a desk to the right after checkouts. There can be quite a queue. They wouldn't bring anything upstairs though which was a nuisance for the mattresses mostly.

Also check what you want is in stock before you go as they do run out of stuff and then you're stuck paying for a second delivery & making a second trip. (Were still short a mattress)

Definitely create and print your list from the website before you go.

Oh I thought it was a flat rate - our area was 69e. I see now it's linked to the goods- it might be cheaper for us to rent a van in that case!we would be probably buying 1500-2000e worth of furniture.

Many thanks for the reply!really useful

There is a picking and delivery service offered by IKEA, we availed of it recently for a large delivery of wardrobes/sofas to the Midlands. We've also used it for picking/delivery to Kerry.

The Kerry delivery (2 sofas) was flawless. Ordered in store on a Sunday, delivered on Tuesday with a quick phone call an hour beforehand.

The midlands delivery (much larger, about 40 items) was one of the most painful/expensive experiences we've had. Delivery day 1 (after traveling to the Midlands to meet it), didn't turn up. When we called towards the end of the day we were told it hadn't event been picked.
Delivery day 2, half the wardrobe cabinets were missing.
Delivery day 3, the missing wardrobes arrived.
IKEA visit 3 - to collect the fixings that had been knocked off the package during delivery.
IKEA visit 4 is pending to replace a shelf which was damaged in transit.

When it works, it's a great service. When it doesn't it is absolutely woeful and made worse by 30 minute waits on the phone to speak to someone or 45 minutes queueing to speak to customer service in store.

At this stage, with all the trips to IKEA and the Midlands to meet deliveries it would have been cheaper to have wardrobes custom made and fitted locally.

By way of an apology, IKEA refunded the delivery/picking charge and gave us a coupon good for meatballs or overcooked-cod in the IKEA 'restaurant'.

We used it twice for a large amount of furniture too and found it great. From memory delivery was 95 eur based on what we spent, and we also spent the 25 (I think) eur on the picking service. With that you just give your list in at the desk near the door, pay there and then they go off and get all the stuff and bring it to the delivery place so you don't have to queue to pay or for the delivery area. Well worth it. You do still have to go to the store though-can't order from home.

Both time delivery was exactly when they said, they'll bring all the items to whatever room you want. One time we did get one wrong item (which I subsequently discovered was actually my fault for using the wrong number!) but once I rang in they arranged to deliver the correct item two days later and those delivery guys took away the wrong item so couldn't complain about it.

We've used it twice, maybe three times. They changed the delivery charge method very recently. It's now a flat fee depending on where you're going and is nothing to do with how much you spend

    http://www.ikea.com/ie/en/customer-service/services-at-ikea/getting-it-home/

Both times they rang an hour beforehand which is handy. The window of delivery can be pretty long if you get the afternoon one. It's 1pm to 7pm, one of the times it was after 9 before it arrived so that wasn't ideal given someone was there from 1 waiting.

All items were perfect and accounted for though, delivery men were all very friendly. I'd use the service again no problem and would rely on them to call beforehand rather than waiting around for the entire slot time.

Thanks so much for your reply & for clarifying the flat fee for the delivery!

The replies seem mostly positive so I think its something we will go with rather than renting a van etc.

I have done this. It is fine, and quite fast and reasonably prompt. I have done it from the Belfast store too. Depending on sterling, you might get some saving from going there.

I'd avoid their delivery based on our experience, we had to take the option on a sofa and chair and it was delivered by the rudest most ignorant couple of people you could meet. Wanted to dump it all in hall, banged off every corner they could when finally agreed to bring them in, refused to take the rubbish created and then refused to take away equivalents as agreed with ikea, finally did, then called back to try to dump them back with us. All the while being borderline threatening about it all. IKEA couldn't have cared less.

I think we had the same guys to the Midlands. Cribbed about having to put the wardrobes into a bedroom, cribbed more about putting the sofas in the front-room because it was a different room

I think it's purely the luck of the draw which freight company/drivers you get. The in-laws couldn't have been happier with their delivery a few weeks earlier.

Went to ikea recently to look at sofas. Bought two and paid for at 5pm sat evening. Delivery was flat rate to limerick. Two lovely gentlemen arrived at 10am the following morning Sunday and the items were treated with care. Have to say it is some great service. Beats waiting 10 weeks for a sofa from most sofa specialists.

Sounds similar, they don't work directly for ikea which is how ikea try to get anyway with not standing over them I guess. Luck of the draw alright..

    Hi,

Just had our second delivery in a year this morning form IKEA.

We were getting PAX wardrobes and we paid the extra E15 to get it picked as well. It was a great experience.

We only bought them yesterday, and were given a time slot of 12 - 6 today. The guys rang when they were 1/2 hour from the house. They brought up the stuff to the rooms we wanted them in and were really, really nice. We had a similar experience the first time also.

A mirror was broken, but the delivery guys picked up on it before it came into the house and are dealing with it. They said it would probably be next week before it is replaced, but that is fine by us.

Thanks everyone - hopefully we get someone decent delivering our stuff. Otherwise it seems to be mostly positive reviews, im glad as I don't fancy driving a lwb van around Dublin!

I'm moving house, and had a scheduled delivery for this past weekend.

The transport "handlers" (as I don't think they are IKEA staff) had incredibly long delays that day; instead of ringing me an hour before arriving (as per protocol), they rang 5 minutes before getting to my place - and there was no way I could be @home with that notice.
That lead to a change of plans about this delivery - we agreed they would do Galway first, then come back to my place couple of hours later.
They arrived in a hurry - making me feel "guilty" for not allowing them to finish their schedule sooner. So the "handover" part with me receiving a number of boxes and signing for them was without anyone showing me how many boxes I was supposed to get, and actually comparing what I received when they were there. I trusted they represent IKEA and would do it right.

But I realized one hour after these guys left that I am missing parts of what I ordered. I rang on their mobile, they really tried to convince me that I am wrong. And tbh, this is the most expensive item from the lot, and I only have one board from it !!! Next day (on Sunday) I spent more than an hour on the phone with customer service guys, telling them how I have received an incomplete delivery;  eventually one lady puts in a new order for me for the missing parts, with planned delivery for Wednesday.

Guess what: Wednesday we wait all day, nothing arrives at our house. In the evening I call again customer service: found out that the order for the missing part got put on hold by some team lead in the stores department (actually now I can't see anything about it from ikea.com). It appears there is an investigation needed, cause Monday the "transport guys" were saying that they delivered the parts I say I am missing.
    - Note that I don't know if the investigation is started yet.

This is so unprofessional from their side, and frustrating for me: no one notifies their customer about such order change, what on earth is this ?!? and now I wait again to be contacted with the status of this mess Thursday.

Anyone having similar experiences ? Or would you know what official channels are there to send formal complaints about this matter if it doesn't get addressed (I am talking about consumer protection type of thing).

As of 26.04 COB - IKEA Dublin/Stores seem not to be reachable by the customer service guys in UK, (I've been trying to reach them twice today). They didn't contact me neither. Only thing I found out today is that such investigations for missing parcels could take up to 48h.
PS: Just to think that before this happened, we were wanting to buy second round of furniture from them ... now I may have to look to local suppliers instead.

the end of our "transport" saga: today our missing boxes have been delivered (& glad the delivery team was different).
