    Hi Guys,

Going to Salzburg next Fri(2nd Dec) . I believe the Christmas market is very good so will go to that. Anyone know of other things to do, good pubs\ restaurants?

    Thanks

You can take the Funicular Railway, visit the Fortress Hohensalzburg, try the Mozart chocolates; they also do Sound of Music themed tours, for those who are into it.

We traveled from Munich by train for a one night..sound of music tour if your into that get the funicular and visit hohensalzburg as mentioned already..
It's a lovely city and easy to walk around ..some lovely architecture..shops tend to be expensive...have not been at Christmas I can imagine it's lovely.
We found the nightlife very tame to be honest ..we visited midweek which might have made a difference but the city really died after dark..some lovely restaurants mind ...stick to the old town/city centre area where the majority of bars are ...we visited during the summer and it seemed the done thing was grab a bottle of wine and sit down by the river.
One pub that's seemed more trade than others was Murphy's law Irish pub... I don't normally visit Irish bars on holidays but no choice on this occasion.
    Enjoy

    • Make sure you see the Mirabell Gardens (featured in the Sound of Music).
    • The Trick Fountains at Schloss Hellbrunn are worth a visit (15 mins on bus no. 25)
    • Take the funicular up to Hohensalzburg Fortress and walk down. You can see Nonnberg Convent from the SoM on the way down.
    • The Untersbergbahn is closed from 2 to 7 December 2016, just in case you considered going there.

I highly recommend Bärenwirt for a traditional Austrian/German restaurant at reasonable prices. I advise booking in advance as its small and very popular.

If you're going to Salzburg for the nightlife you've picked the wrong city.
