Single bulb without hub?

Hi, I'm wondering do any of the bulbs work without buying a hub. I want to buy one for a bedroom, and have looked around at hue, c by ge, wemo etc.

-It wouldn't have to work with a physical switch
-It wouldn't need an app
-All that needs to control it is an amazon echo

I don't particularly want dimming/colours as I want to keep it as cheap as possible. Any ideas?

LIFX bulbs are wifi only, and thus don't need a hub and yes it will work with Echo, one here for £33:

Stricitly speaking Philips Hue don't need a hub either, for instance this one will work using the supplied wireless switch:

However note on it's own like this it won't work with Echo or your smartphone. It needs the Hue bridge to gain that functionality. But you could use the remote to turn it on and off from your bed, etc.

Depends on what you are trying to do. Note you can often pick up Hue bridges for really cheap on adverts, etc. as people end up with extras from bundles.

+1 on the LIFX,

I'd go for the colour version from Amazon. We've had them for a couple of years now, mostly set to a soft-white tone. Colour version is only £2 more than the white one at the moment

Thanks for the help. Looked up the lifx colour bulbs there and found this on amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk/Original-Multicolor-Adjustable-Dimmable-Required/dp/B00H8KKEZQ/ref=sr_1_2?s=lighting&ie=UTF8&qid=1480152397&sr=1-2&keywords=lifx%2Bcolour&th=1, with the white version 3 pound cheaper.
I'm trying to justify paying as much for the bulb as I did for the echo dot itself!

Not much more expensive in Argos down here, €24 for the white one which Argos oddly have decided to give the title 'colour'.
