    Hi guys,

Looking at buying a car. Don't want insurance to be high so looking at 1.4s. What's the most reliable make? Don't really care about speed or anything like that.

    Thanks in advance.

    Golf or Astra or Corolla.

Corolla I would say, have yet to hear of anyone having issues with one.

Without knowing your budget OP we could recommend anything from a 15 year old Corolla to a brand new Passat.

    Sorry around 3000-4000

Kia Ceed or Hyundai i30. Or a corolla but it'll be older.
    I'd avoid a 1.4 Golf or Astra.

Don't know about this seller but seem to remember some less than positive review of a dealer in park west

    Some i30s

This looks good. Has the optional MS Design lip kit and it's a good colour with low miles.
It's not me selling it by the way!

Why would ya avoid the Golfs? Not reliable?

Honda Civic would be pretty spot on.

    Honda Civic or Honda Jazz.

You won't get a great civic for the OPs budget though, and sadly insurance is still expensive on them even though they're slow even by 1.4 standards.
They are a nice car though.

The 1.4 in the Golf is a bit soft.

Early Mazda 3 will fit the budget too, have bulletproof engines, some nice spec also.

They're as slow as a funeral, using the same engine as the Focus. For maximum reliability as well as something that will actually be able to move at more than walking pace, the Corolla has got to be the best option for the OP's budget - or else the Hyundai or Kia options, their 1.4s are rather powerful for that size of engine on paper and both of those cars have a good reputation for being reliable. They will also be newer than a Corolla and will be better equipped, too.

Think I'm going to go with an Auris lads. Thanks for the feeedback

Don't buy an Auris. The first generation model is a horrible car; it's not very fast, it's not that reliable (it's not unreliable, but it's certainly not as good as the Toyota reputation would have you believe), it's nasty inside, it's dull looking, it's noisy on the road and, being a Toyota, I expect it's about as interesting as watching paint dry to drive. The same goes for the 07-13 model Corolla (it's essentially an Auris with a boot). The 02-06 Corolla is a far better car in every way, interior is better, it's very reliable, it's faster, more economical, quieter - a 2006 Luna hatchback is the best buy of the lot of them. The only thing the 07-13 Auris/Corolla does better than the older car is safety really, it's got a better Euro NCAP rating and all models (even the Irish spec ones) have curtain airbags and a driver's knee airbag as standard.

If you're after something from that vintage, I'd strongly advise considering an Astra, Civic, i30 or Cee'd instead.

I'm not too worried about speed and I got a good deal.

I had a Honda jazz for years and I loved it. Never a thing wrong with it. Would recommend it highly. I traded up to a mazda 3 simply for size and because I got a really good deal. Otherwise I would still have it.
