I'm considering an upgrade soon or maybe wait until next year and do a new build so I'm just wondering what my options are.

    Current spec:

    i5 2500K @ 4.3ghz
EVGA GTX970 ACX II superclocked something or other
    8GB DDR
MOBO is Asus P8P67 rev 3.0
    I have 2 X SSD 124GB and 256 GB then a 1TB HDD

I'm running a 1080 144hz gsync monitor and finding some games are starting to tax my desire for a solid 144 fps and max/high gfx settings.
BF1 for example I have to turn settings down to achieve that glorious 144fps.

Granted if I was still running a 60hz monitor it wouldn't be an issue as my rig is easily achieving 60+ fps at max settings but I really cannot go back to 60hz, ive tried with another monitor and no just no :)

Quite happy with 1080 for the moment so would be nice if this rig had some life left in it, I would more than likely go with 1440 144hz if I went with a new build.

Similar spec, I'd agree that i7 2700k or 3770 would be a nice upgrade and would keep you going for another while.

Thanks for that, just had a quick look around and the i7 3770K seems to be hard to find and pretty expensive.

The regular non-K 3770 is around €150 and is pretty good too, or an older 2600K is around the same price and you can OC that as best you can. Means you can stick with the board another while longer by just dropping in a CPU. Realistically the best new upgrade from a 2500K for the latest 2016 games and looking to the future with 144hz in mind is Skylake i7 (or hold on for Zen/Kabylake).

    Thanks guys.
Cheapest I can find one is for €300, not willing to spend that much when i will be probably replacing it when I do opt for a full new rig.

The 3770? I bought one for €180 on Ebay the other day....the regular model, not the 'k' model. Loads there still for around €200.

If you're going Skylake you'd really need to go with a i7-6700 build, as the 3770 would out-perform the 6600K in games like Battlefield 1.

From benching personally, even the older i7-2600 is much stronger in BF1 than the 2500, maps like St. Quentin Scar drop to 40-45fps when stuff is really going crazy on the 2500, but hold a fairly stable 60fps on the 2600.
