Lot of sites such as Amazon, Facebook etc will "follow" you around the internet based on your searches on them.

You can switch it off for each easily enough. On Amazon go to Your Account -> Personalisation -> Advertising Preferences and just switch it off.

Don't use Facebook but from googling it there should be an option something like Settings > Account Settings > Ads. You can switch it off there

I thought you were going to be talking about the previous searches or suggestions that pop up as typing into the search bar.

Many years ago in college a lecturer was running through the basics of PowerPoint. He had his pc screen displayed on the projector for all to see.

As part of the tutorial he was going to show us how to get an image from the internet and put it onto a PowerPoint slide. The example presentation was going to be on Man Utd, so the lecturer decided he would get an image of Roy Keane for the presentation.

He went to google and started typing "Roy Keane" Tyr suggestions google were bringing up were

    Roy Keane Champions League
    Roy Keane Walks his dog

    Then the final suggestion

    Roy Keane **** His Dog

The whole class broke out laughing at the projector screen, and the lecturer being a dozy sod couldn't figure out what we were laughing at for ages and when he spotted it he quickly mumbled something and closed the browser window.
