I currently have a sky box with a british sky viewing card. I pay no subscription but get loads of free to air channels. I have an indoor aerial for the soarview channels - reception depends on the weather.

If I get an outdoor aerial will I get any extra channels?

I want to combine the lot into one decoder and be able to record programmes while watching another.

    What are my options?

No, unless you are missing some Saorview channels now.
You will get a better signal and no loss of channels due to inadequate aerial.

A combo STB, preferably with 2 x DVB-S and 2 x DVB-T tuners and the ability to get a 7 day EPG on Sat channels.

There are lots of threads about such STBs, so a bit of reading is called for ;)

I want to combine the lot into one decoder ...

With the right aerial, some areas in ROI can receive the free UK channels reliably from terrestrial transmitters. Easier than satellite to distribute to multiple TV points, but good reception would be very location-dependent.

Maybe posting a link or the model of the box would help

    all working well?
    Yep all works well
My father in law would not be too demanding he would not be recording anything though

I myself do a lot of recording

I started out with the Amiko Alien 2 but found it to be a little hit & miss
when it came to recording sometimes it would & sometimes not
usually if it was something herself wanted and I would get it in the ear when it did not record

I think most issues were down to it not having quite enough memory / ram

So after a while of this I bit the bullet and got a vu+ Duo 2
stuck in an old sky box hard drive
and off it went no problems since

Just be aware that some of the boxes like the Ariva and Alien mini combo boxes usually have only 2 tuners
1 for sat stations and 1 for terrestial ( RTE ) so if you wanted to record a programme on sat ( bbc ) while watching say channel 4 your snookered
    same for rte
you cant watch RTE 1 while recording RTE 2 as you only have 1 tuner

Where some of the linux combo boxes can have multiple tuner cards
