UK private parking fine

Back in August I rented a car in the UK and during the night I stopped in the parking lot of a service station.

I did not realised it was not a free car park and it was just before midnight anyway, who would have thought it wasn't for free?!

It was a private car park, they sent their notice to the rental company, which forwarded my detail to them and sent a copy of the notice to me (after I asked for it) .

But I have never received any notice from the UK car park company to pay them.

I'd like to know if they just didn't bother because I had an Irish address and I'm ok. Or I should follow up with them and make the payment of 100 pounds

Normally your rental agreement with the Car Hire company would give them the right to debit the card you used to rent the car. Before you pay anything to the Private Car Park, check if the car hire company is going to pay it for you.

The car rental company didn't pay the fine and CP Plus aren't asking you to pay it - what's the problem here? Let it go FFS.

In the UK, private parking charges are INVOICES, not fines, or penalties or any other form of demand. The invoice is for a service they say you received. McDonalds, IKEA, Services on the motorway network and Pizzahut are common ones.

I have had a few of them in the past and have mostly ignored them as they used to relate to the driver of the vehicle only but that changed earlier this year when the company can demand the name of the driver using a shady new deal with the UK Government. It is common practice to have these costs reduced substantially if you decide you want to pay the invoice.

The fact that you are in another Country makes it even less likely they will pursue this. My advice is to do nothing. If you do receive a notice you can decide then whether to enter into a negotiation with them. I wouldn't though.

There are a number of cases in the UK Courts at present seeking to have these sort of charges deemed unlawful.

    TT
