Anyone have a guess at how much the cost of building a 12 unit parlour with Dairy. Just the building of parlour floor and building to fit a 12 unit parlour with a building off of it for Dairy. Thanks.

Don't have exact measurements in just looking for a near figure. I rang a builder but he is looking for exact measurements and wouldn't give a near figure. Thanks.

I put up a new 14unit here last year. It was up against a cubicle house, so one wall already done. Existing dairy in place already also. I found it very hard at the time to get anyone to do the concrete for me, the only quote I could get was 6k for labour, and about 4k of concrete needed. For the job in it I thought that was too much, so I ended up getting a builder friend of mine to do the pit and wall in 4inch solid blocks (on their flat obviously ha), he poured the floors also, I sorted most the levels for him. Cost me about 5k in total for that. Simple 4bay leanto roof on top, did that all myself, using timber rafters etc. Materials for that cost me 1600. Obviously that's the very low end of the scale with a reasonable amount of myown labour etc, but hopefully gives you something to go on.

Finally the dairy I'd advice you to put on the side of the parlour if you can, and leave a straight run out the front for the cows, it's better also if you can face the front of the parlour to the paddocks, helps motivate the cows to leave faster ha.

Timmaay did you have a poured wall in that... on the new wall? Have you rough dimensions off the top of your head. What was the timber... 1.2 or 1.8 centres?

Am going to bite the bullet and extend our curved roof parlour upwards and sideways.

Well Tim info is excellent with the pictures. What were the dimensions of the shed you built. Did you use any drawings?

The photos are great.. Tim you could make a man feel lazy with all that work going on.

I was thinking of 1.2 or 1.8m for the rafter spacing which I think are timber.

I see you have steels across as well, would make sense and also anchor the stall work. Might get away with wider rafter spacing too.

Rafters every 1.2m would be wayyy too much work for me ha, I just went for 9x4 inch at the normal bay widths, and 6x4 purlins. Like most leanto roofs were made back in the day. The steel girders across are actually just resting on a bracket each side, basically only service as a gantry to hang the whole rumprail frame etc.

It was a hectic spring getting it all done (I started in Jan 2015, thinking I'd be reasonably finished once calving kicked off proper mid Feb), wasn't in until April, but the main thing was it saved me having to milk 17rows at peak that year. Max number of rows since is 7, I've been feeling like a right lazy phucker since I'll admit ha.

Shed was 18ft wide I think, pit 5ft6 anyways. For a 14 unit it's something like 55ft long in total, the one cockup I did make I left the exit at the front alittle too narrow, they have only 7ft to exit to the side, I do still have space out the front, and my next project is to add 10ft onto the front, and burst a hole into the cubicle shed for the cows to exit across and down the cubicle shed instead. Hopefully alongside another bay the back, and an extra 6 units! (depending on if I get a grant and the price of milk!).

For drawings, my parlour installer gave me a diagram with the required dimensions and told me the few areas I could play around with if needed be.
