Emergency taxed, what to do?

I started work for the first time at the end of summer. I never registered with revenue as it had slipped my mind (my own fault) now meetgency tax is being deducted from my wages and obviously it's made me want to sort it out

However I simply don't know what to do. I've tried calling revenue but this recorded message made me tell it my PPS number and when I gave it just said I'm not a PAYE contributor and hung up. I then called the tax office and they directed me to the same line. Then I went into revenue.ie and registered for MyAccount, and was told they would send a password to me in 5 working days.

Am I following the right steps? It's totally confusing for me and it's impossible to contact revenue as they close at 4 o'clock on weekdays and don't open on the weekends. Any guidelines would be very much appreciated!
