Hi all, looking for opinions on this car. I have a potential great deal on an import with verified mileage, but I'm just wondering if there's anything I should know or check before buying?

It's the 2.2l Ex-l dtec model of the 2010 Accord

Also if anyone knows any downsides to buying this car I'd love to hear them.

    Many thanks

    M

If it has a sunroof look around the edges with it open, they suffer can from corrosion there, was fixed under warranty in the UK, not sure here.

Just be aware that the mpg is not outstanding. I do an 80 mile round trip daily and get ca. 47/48 mpg. Drops pretty significantly in the town or small journeys. I knew that before I bought it 5 years ago though.

That said, it's about the only downside to the car. I had the previous icdti model and it's a major step up all round to that model. Pity they retired the Accord lineup.

I don't mind the mpg at all. I currently drive a 2002 3 series and get between 30-40 mpg on the motorway which is grand. I only do 7k - 10k miles per year, 80% of that motorway so it's no problem. But thanks all the same nice to know.

DPFs can give trouble on these too.

That's one of my main fears about owning any diesel car. Say the DPF goes, what kind of money are we talking about for repair? Any way to check if it needs doing or has been done before?

There is no way of checking unless you get the DPF removed. The car will do a DPF regeneration cycle frequently. However if you do alot of short trips then the cycle may not have time to complete and eventually the DPF will get blocked and the car will go into limp home mode. You would then either need to get a dealer to force a DPF regeneration or have it removed or cleaned out.

There are companies out there that will remove the DPF altogether and delete it from the car's ECU software. The only concern around this is that in the not too distant future the NCT will most likely start testing car DPFs as part of the test.

See my driving habits would be something like a 2-3 mile round trip a couple of times per week, with a 200 mile round trip done once every 2 or 3 weeks. That's the vast extent of my driving with some other short to mid range journeys maybe once or twice per month.

I'd be worried that the short hops would damage the DPF over time which is why I was initially in the market for a petrol car but there's hardly any to be got so I switched my attention to diesel. It's a right pain. I'm currently between the Accord or a 2010 Audi A4 2.0 TDI Technik, but the A4 flywheel issues are kind of putting me off that.

It's a hard one to call, maybe look at something like a hybrid. A Lexus CT200h while not a direct alternative to an Accord might be a safer option and worth looking at. They can be bought in the UK fairly cheap second hand and you can get them with a similar high spec to the Accord.

Not mad about the styling on them but someone had mentioned an older Lexus Hybrid to me before which was nice but 2008 I think was the end of them. I'm more into bigger saloon type cars to be honest and I'd find it hard to turn away from that. Thanks for the suggestion though it is certainly is something to consider.

The only Lexus saloon hybrid they had back in 2008 would have been the GS450H or LS600H which are alot bit bigger than the Accord. The IS300H would be the closest in size to the Accord but they only appeared from 2013 onwards.

I owed a 2009 ex model of same car.. Everytime I pass one on the road makes me a little sad cause it was a great car. Boot isn't massive on them if that's a concern and as others have pointed out the mpg is a little on the low side and the tax is 390. If I was buying an accord I'd try and find a clean type s from the UK.. The type s here was just the standard engine with different spec whereas UK car was 170bhp

I've had a couple of Ex Accords.
    One 2006 & 2010.
Rightly or wrongly I thought the engine on the 2006 model was smoother.
Someone mentioned the sun roof earlier. On the later model I noticed the rubber was starting to degrade around the frame of the sun roof & wanted to get it replaced. I was told the rubber wasn't available as a spare & that I would need to replace the entire unit @ about 900 :O
On the later model I also had an electrical failure in an injector under warranty which was replaced. I also had several sensor failures again all under warranty. When the warranty was up I sold the car on & bought a Civic.

I drive an 09 one myself OP.

Sunroof leaked, sourced a second hand one for 40 euro replaced it. Old one rotten under the rubber.

DPF failed to regenerate a few times and went into limp mode. Brothers a mechanic with good tools and software and tbh I don't know what he did but sorted it over 20000 miles ago.

Love the car as it's a nice place to be with some good extras. No other downsides apart from being heavy on front headlight bulbs which are a dose to change as whole bumper has to come off.

Brought it in from the north 5 years ago nearly with 60k miles on it, 159k miles now and still love getting in to drive it.

It's not a BMW or Mercedes-Benz but a nicer looking car for that day imo.

    Happy shopping!

OP here. Got the pump analysed by a Bosch diesel injector technical group and they confirmed the damage was from bad fuel. Plenty of pictures of the pump internals rusted to bits.

So, it was worth the few euros to get the analysis done. I'll be covered in full.....can. 8K.

Think this might be the wrong thread :P

    +1
Via Honda Karma, Holdcroft Honda provided v good parts prices.

Had a 2010 Exec for 2 years, about 130k km. Always wanted one, but it never lived up to the expectation. Wheel bearings & sunroof probs, plus headlight bulbs a ba****d to replace. Plus look out for speaker issues, distortion drove me mad. Look great though, and lots of toys are nice. All round I averaged mid 40s mpg, and all-in-all a good car, but not bullet proof as some would have you believe.
