Just wondering how you would go about questioning the amount that is been looked for for property tax on my rental house, how much should I have to pay if the property is worth e100k,regards and thanks.

When did you buy the house? If you have been paying a overly high figure since 2013 you can request a refund but its not guaranteed - as it is a self-assessed tax. The longer you leave it, the less chance of success and the more need for documentary evidence. The professional valuation they will probably ask for may make it not worth it.

    A house worth 100,000 has tax of €90 a year. 100,001 is €225.

Get comps , I don t know what they re called in Ireland but in the US that s short for comparables, what comparable homes have sold for in your neighborhood in the past year or two.

I get them thru my refinance lady; a RA might be able to help.

Good luck, I went before a county comity here to question the valuation on my home and got railroaded, it was a joke. Short of getting a solicitor they can value your house at anything they want

One of the beauties I looked forward to about retiring in Ireland was NO property tax; it ll probably be out of control by the time im ready to move
