    Hello,

I've minor surgery tomorrow and wondering what I can take. I was going to take a book, phone, wallet and a change of clothes but not sure if the hospital (Connolly) let you do that, or if there are safes or they look after your stuff while your in surgery.

I've not been in hospital for two decades so not sure and I've no-one to ask but here.

    Kai.

    Give the hospital a ring.

I'd take some heroin. If you're going private, they charge you a fortune for it, when you can get the same stuff down the boardwalk for half the price. Pm me if you need some.

I thought the front desk opened at 9am but t its 8:30, so I got time to give them a call.

    Cheers!

Your stuff will be ok. Leave expensive things at home.
You don't need a phone, laptop, tablet, credit card, or more cash than enough for a taxi fare or bus fare.

Its serious business. It says specifically to bring slippers and a bathrobe. I'll be going with socks and a t-shirt. Hopefully I'll be discharging myself as soon as they bring me back but I've no idea what shape I'll be in.

    Should be good craic anyway.

I took in my fish tank the last time. Needed a double adapter as sockets were few and far between though. Luckily the hospital shop stocked them.

You'll surely be arrested if you take all that stuff

Is there an overnight involved? In my experience they give you one of them paper gowns pretty much as soon as you arrive so the only clothes you need is what you arrive in any maybe something looser to change into after the surgery if your going home the same day.

    You should bring the following:
Dressing Gown - no pyjamas as you will be wearing one of those hospital gowns. If there is a possibility that you could be kept in overnight, then bring pyjamas.
Book - Depending on where you are on the list for surgery, you could have a long wait before going to theatre.
Phone - to call the person who is going to bring you home. If you are being sedated or have anaesthesia, some one has to bring you home. Also useful for passing the time while waiting.
Slippers - you will need these for walking to the toilet etc and in some hospitals you might even walk from the day ward to the theatre.
Clothes - You can just use the clothes you arrive in for going home. No need for a change of clothes.

There is a place beside the bed to store your belongings and in my experience, they are quite safe.

Hospitals say you must have someone bring you home.

Most important is the dressing gown. As said they give you the horrible gowns almost straight away and unless you want to be going around the hospital with your bare arse on full view then you'll be wanting your dressing gown.

Loose clothes as you don't know what will swell up!

They give you a gown to wear and some lovely net underwear. They gave me a dressing gown and slippers.

I felt crap after the surgery I was really cold but thankfully they had a hair dryer thing to warm me up. Ask for it!

Wasn't at Connolly so it might be different. I rang my hospital before I went in and asked what to bring.

And best of luck. Hope its a easy surgery.
