Years ago I knew a guy who had a life plan to change career every 10 years. He was in his 40s and third career.

I thought that he has crazy

Wish Id been a bit crazier in my younger days

    What Wud U Do ?

Becoming a teacher at 58 and dealing with teenagers I would rather stick pins in my eyes!. I am all for doing what make you happy as long as its not based on the premise that its always better somewhere else or that the grass is greener somewhere else.

In effect she's taking early retirement and trying her hand at something she always thought she's love. It's like a hobby for her.

The teachers will eat you alive for suggesting their job could be referred to as retirement.

Keep in mind she is in England and is doing this for philanthropic reasons. It is a part time activity for her going forward. She couldn't do likewise here. And I don't I underestimate what teachers do but to Lucy it is not a career. And I said she was retiring from journalism. Don't twist my words.

Well I think fair play to her. I hope she gets lots of satisfaction from her career change. It's a brave thing to do at 58.

Trigonometry is an easy subject to teach. You just have to cover every angle.

Fantastic. I have no idea how people stay in the same line of work for 30-40 odd years.

Unfortunately with our cost of living being constantly inflated, our happiness is being eroded. This sort of thing is on the decrease sadly.

You're clearly not obtuse, cos that's an acute observation.

I'm 36, 14 (18 if you include college) years into one career and less than 1 into another, I hope over the next 5 - 10 years the budding career will replace my current primary one.

Liam Neeson did teacher training in Newcastle in the 1970s and punched a pupil for pulling a knife on him

I hope he was suitably reprimanded.

    Neeson or the pupil?

If I remember correctly he decided to quit teaching as a result of the incident.

I went from working in private sector enterprise to working in the charity sector...

Went back to working in private sector enterprise, solely because there's far less corruption involved than the charity sector.

But you'll never get a visa for the US once they know you've been involved with implements of maths instruction.

You need a few degrees under your belt first. It's hard to find accommodation though unless you have someone to cosine the lease. I knew this landlord once... but I don't want to go off on a tangent.

I used to read her articles in the Financial Times every once in a while and I was not a fan of her ideology/world view. She seemed to take the side of the employer against the employee a lot.

But fair play all the same.
