Looking for direction to help a child with anxiety which is possibility linked to a mild form of autism. I have tried a few different avenues about this but hitting a blank wall. I have spoken to a doctor and they were of no help. I think this type of issue can be easily address through behavior but could do with pointers where to look to understand exactly how to tackle it.

Some pointers towards an area of behavioral science which deals with these issues would be appreciated.

PS. I am not looking for medical advice and have no intention of giving the child medication. I posted this earlier but thread was blocked as it was assumed I was looking for medical advice all I want is pointers where to go or who to talk with to about it.

I presume seeing a GP who will refer you on to a therapist who is specialised for children, who will be able to give advise?

Good to see you are trying to get help for your kid, I wish my parents did.

Has the child been assessed under AON?

Hi Thanks for your reply, no she has not been assessed under AON as I dont think its sever enough to label it. I had her assessed some years ago because of learning disability resulting in a diagnosis of Dyslectic and Dyscalculia. At the time she was way behind her class but over the last 3 years has turned the corned and is now in the top 10% of her class even with this diagnoses. Shes very bright, emotionally mature but very sensitive and concerned about damaging her confidence with more tests.

I have no experience of autism but plenty of experience of motherhood and I would urge you at the very least to have a chat with your GP, he or she could refer your daughter for something like cognitive behavioural therapy.
In your other post you referred to your daughter's anxiety, and by the sound of it it is very severe and interfering with her life. I know you say she is very sensitive but she also needs help that you as a parent, no matter how devoted and caring, just are not qualified to give to your daughter. Being top of the class is marvellous, she sounds very bright indeed - but from what you're saying she needs urgent help with her anxiety. I'm not saying it will be easy. As parents we often have to make tough choices about what will be best for our children. Short term discomfort now could well mean a better life for your daughter in the long run.
