Stamp Duty

    Hi Guys,

I just wanted to ask - if I'm the first time buyer do I need to pay a stamp duty on the new property?
I have asked 2 estate agents and one of them told me that I don't need to pay it and another one told me that as far as he know I will have to pay 1%?

    And who to believe?

    Thanks :)

Stamp duty is applied on the ex-VAT amount for a new property at 1% up to €1m and 2% above. That an estate agent wouldn't know this is worrying.

Edit: it's been 6 years since stamp duty was exempt for FTBs.

You do have to pay it.

    1% up to 1million, 2% over that.
