Atari 2600

Just looking at the Commodore threads, and whilst I did have an Amiga, bundled with Lemmings, Captain Planet, and The Simpsons, the Atari 2600 was the one to have.

Wood finish, proper old school joy sticks, and a wheel control for driving games. Pit fall, Astorides, and Space Invaders were my personal favourites.

Kids these days with their PS4s and Microsoft What ever number they have after their device now, and whilst I would love to see a Mini NES under the tree, in just over a month, getting rid of that Atari is my only true regret in life.

£119, £129, £139.. (depended on the retailer) punt. A fortune at the time. I would play this in Apollo 1 on Moore Street in the early 80s and just dream..

Family box as far as I can recall, 2 joysticks and two paddles + games.

I picked up a full set from the Blackberry Fair for 15 euro, in the 00's. Consoles on their own turn up a fair bit, I have three or four now. Corrosion seems to be an issue, green/blue residue on the board sometimes.

Hard to get across the craze for these, but.. you'd walk into the most unlikely store, say your small local DIY/Electrical store.. and they'd be selling them. Odd.

How many years did you have to wait for that one?

    ;)

ET was so bad, Atari had to bury thousands of copies in the desert.
