Disability benefit and qualified adult

I have a friend who might be forced to apply for disability allowance in the near future as he has a degenerative disease, but he is unsure if he can claim for his wife as a qualified adult, as she currently receives a carers' payment from the state. He is worried about surviving on a reduced income.
Can anyone shed some light on this for him, please?
I will pass on any info gratefully, thank you in advance.

Would he then receive only 50% of the qualified adult payment for her too?

No he would still get €124pw for her as a qualified adult but her careers would go down .

Also can he put in his application for D.A before he has to give up work?
If he has to be out of work before applying, is there any payment he can get immediately to keep him going until the D.A application is approved?

He should be out first especially as it covers illness that will last 12 months or more ,
In the meanwhile he could get a supplementary allowance from his local cwo to tie him over to he gets a decision,
Bear in mind disability applications can take up to 12 months to get a decision and payment and they also tend to give a refusal the first time ,
Make sure he has all his documentation and medical evidence ready to go ,
Id recommend he starts a diary explaining how his illness effects him on a daily basis
