    Hi.

I'm looking to purchase a compressor and imapct wrench for removing car wheels nuts etc.

It'll be used for just home use ie. classic cars/tractors and maintenance of family cars etc.

I may buy some other small tools to go with it in time and I may even attempt to do some small paint jobs with it.

Can anyone tell me what size to go for and what figures to look out for in the specs.

If anyone can point me to where I would purchase a compressor and impact wrench, feel free.

    Thanks

Budget? If you need to purchase both then & don't have any other use for the compressor then I'd go for a milwaukee cordless impact gun

Prefer to buy compressor rather than cordless impact wrench, as I can use for other stuff.

I haven't really set a budget but as it's for mainly hobby work I won't be spending thousands.

    Around the €500 mark

I know people say they are rubbish but I've had one of the Lidl compressors for about 4 years. It gets regular use as my son uses it for paint spaying. Think I paid about €100 for it. I checked it against several more expensive branded models and its identical to ones costing 3 times as much. Only thing I'd change if buying again is I'd by the slightly bigger version which is still under €150.

would this one run an average 1/2" drive impact wrench

    http://www.ebay.ie/itm/Warrior-50-Litre-V-Twin-Air-Compressor-14-6CFM-3HP-240v-Electric-8Bar-116PSI-50L-/121700762724?hash=item1c55ee4464:g:duYAAOSwp5JWVdcO

    Standard Features:

    ♦ Power: 2.2kw (3hp)
    ♦ Working Pressure: 8bar (116psi)

♦ Warranty: 12 Month Return to Base Warranty
    ♦ Dimensions: 770mm x 380mm x 740mm
    ♦ Weight: 44kg

I probably won't bother with spraying aspect of things as I've read you need alot of air ie. bigger tank etc so probably best not too bother with it

    Impact wrench like this

    http://www.ebay.ie/itm/Warrior-Power-Products-1-2-Inch-DIY-Impact-Wrench-/302095070775?hash=item465644f637

    EXHAUST: Front
    Length: 178mm

What is the (25%) in the line for air consumption about.

    Thanks

    ...

Identical to the more powerful one that Lidl do for €199.

Edit>> Impact Wench also same as Lidl one.

I have the big one and find it great for diy projects

Will it run the impact wrench?

Do LIDL sell these all the time or what

Yes that one will power a impact no problem, i have a very similar one (SIP 50 litre 3hp v twin) I do find if i'm using air sanders it makes the compressor run a lot but it still puts out enough flow and pressure. If you are doing a lot of sanding or running air tools constantly then i'd go for the same compressor just a bigger tank like the 100 litre one.

Do LIDL sell these all the time or what

The impact wrench works OK with the smaller compessor but runs too often the bigger one should be better. Lild and Aldi have them in about twice a year. iirc one or the other had them about a month back so worth checking.

    Thanks all.

The impact wrench I listed above, is it powerful enough to open wheel nuts etc

    Thanks again

Honestly this isn't ment as a smart answer but it depends how tight the nuts are. I have a 200L compressor with a Snap-on gun with all high-flow valves and it doesn't always manage it. A power bar is a great investment also.

    Re: battery guns
Can be brilliant but if only occasionally used the battery can suffer. I have a great one in work but the battery is ran empty on a daily basis.

just don't get a lidl 24l one, they won't power a impact, one really good for blowing up tyres and such

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,855 ✭✭✭nd

have the lidl 24l one. And the lidl impact. It powers it well. Taking off a wheel for example the compressor will usually refill about once.

And same as above it'll usually take off most wheel nuts but maybe 1 in 5 I'll have to break loose manually. But worked in a garage part time and their teng impact and 200 litre sealey compressor struggled with a fair few nuts too.

On reflection, would this perhaps be a better buy, as I already have 3no 4Ah batteries to suit it.

That looks to be a very good powerful impact gun. Only thing is you'll need to buy batteries and charger separately.

    Have them already. Thanks

I have the lidl 24ltr compressor and find it very good .
It will spray paint as well. It came with 2 spray guns , gravity fed and suction type. the gravity fed one is meant to use less air.
Regarding air guns get a name branded one like Chicago pneumatic or ingersoll rand .
I had a friend with a new sealey and it wouldnt open the wheelnuts of a transit van.
I gave him an old ingersoll rand half inch which opened it no bother.
The cheaper ones arent up to much.

    Hi all.

I went for the dewalt 18v wrench in the end.

I already had charger and 3 batteries.

The wrench is, to say the least, absolutely unreal, a real beast.

    €140 odd delivered from toolstop

    Thanks all

I see you mentioned take off wheel nuts above.
Please just don't use the impact to tighten them. The chances of stripping threads is quite high.

Irish air compressors in cork sell ABAC 200 litre air compressors for if I remember correctly €745 I know it's a wee bit more but I don't think you would regret the extra few euro.. It's a very reliable compressor and all spare pets available if ever needed.. I've owned mine a year running impact gun spraying etc and also pumping tractor tyres, anything smaller scale not strong enough for pumping them..
