I have had my number for years so it most likely has never been used before but there must be people with reused numbers

Do they get calls from people looking for the original owner of the number and has it turned into a story

the reason I ask is my uncle died and his number has been given to someone else as their picture now comes up on Whatsapp

But up is not a number?? That makes no sense.

Your first sentence is not a question , it needs no question marks .

    It too, makes no sense.

    You're welcome.

We are nothing but numbers to the aliens controlling us. We're only a game to them.

I know someone who keeps topping up a deceased family member's phone credit as they don't want it to go to someone else.

I think they spend maybe €10 a year... a Top-Up of €5 every six months keeps it active.

I have got a reused number, well had, The previous holder must have been a night working lady as I kept getting calls after 12 midnight, asking was Rosetta there, Where are you my Rosetta , and some other unspeakable calls. I had to ditch phone and Rosetta.

Why would anyone intentionally use a previously used number? :pac:
As said above you'll just get texts or the odd phone calls. It's not like sim cards are expensive too.

People who knew the previous occupant of a reused number would get some fright if they dialed it by mistake and someone answered lol

    087 numbers started in 1993, 086 in 1997, 085 in 2001, 083 in 2005.

    Each have 10,000,000 combinations.

A "new" sim on 087 is likely to be a re-used number at this stage, 086 would also be if 3 still issue them. The others less so but any cancelled or lapsed number would be available to re-issue to a new customer so they may well do so as well.

    But I said intentionally ;)
you know, to buy a second hand phone (say seller doesnt care about the sim) and for another person to use it.

This is a true story, in Canada phone numbers get re-used

UFC Fighter Rory Macdonald gave/lost his number and it was re-used, it ended up with a UFC fan as luck would have it.

Now the week before Rory was fighting, the guy in charge of the walk out music for the fighters would text the fighters, asking them what music they wanted to walk out to, so he texts Rory (in fact this UFC guy who now owns Rory's number) and this fan requests some really obscure walk out music, to which Rory walked out to!!! Rory was oblivious, he just thought that the UFC had chosen the music

It only came to light when the guy in charge of the music approached Rory a few days before his fight and said they were having trouble getting the rights to the song he had requested..."What song???" came Rory's reply

I don't think you understood. You could go to a network as a brand new customer, new connection, new sim, new phone, new everything and still end up with a number that was previously in use by someone else.

    I do understand :pac:
I was referring to people INTENTIONALLY using a known used number. Like a phone and sim they bought off someone or using a friends old sim etc. They know it was in previous use. Aka a sim that is still active and someone else decides to use.

Seriously is this so hard for people to understand on here? :pac:

That's not what the thread is about.

That's why I said INTENTIONALLY. Do you understand what that word means?

I've known people (granted only a few) who used another persons old but active sim. Which I found stupid as new sim cards are cheap. That's what I was saying.

Look at my posts again mate. Look, if there is miscommunication (aka you took me up wrong) then who gives a toss. Let's move on.

But if you're trying to twist things to make me look wrong then again... look at my posts. I have just spelled it out.

Who in the **** buys a phone and uses the sim card help by the prior owner??

That's the point. What mad bastard buys a second hand phone (that comes with a second hand sim to coin a phrase) but I know someone who did.

That's what I am saying. Why would anyone do that? But yet they did. That's what I mean by intentionally. To know it was in use. To know that it's still currently active. To knowingly use it. To intentionally use it.

Living in a bubble I think.
I have to state that this was a couple of years ago. Around 2008/2009 so since then people (and him I hope!) are more wide to the fact your number is associated with whatsapp and the like. But still it's a stupid idea to use another person's number by default.

Could you ask them instead of random strangers on the Internet?

Why not both? Boards is a discussion board so why can't we discuss?

I was in oz for a couple of months and bought a sim to use! Kept getting phone calls once a week looking for some fella who owed money to some company!!

A few people I am friends with on whatsapp/viber their old numbers are now used by other people. don't know how long they would have been out of action for before nEw person got number tho.
