Hi All, I am looking for some advice re the Rent Allowance. Just when i thought i was over the final hurdle i received a letter yesterday looking for a Bank statement for a small deposit account that i have. Simple you may say ? Well when i filled in the application form i left that out because i thought that any amount under 20 grand did not have to be declared. How did they find out ? Well theyve seen a transfer from my savings going into my current account last april and are wondering what it is id say.
    Any advice please greatly appreciated.;)

    Send in the bank statement

Edit- I don't know where you got the idea about anything under 20, 000 being allowed but it's not true. Have a look at the rules.

Stop trying to defraud the state and play by the rules?

Not sure what sort of advice you're looking for here, there is no way around it. RA should only be given to those who need it.

The Rent Supplement Application which you signed contained the following question:

23.Do you have savings or accounts in a bank, post office, building society, credit union or any
other financial institution in the Republic of Ireland or another country?

All Capital/Savings must be declared for any means tested social welfare payment and they will disregard the allowed amount (rather than you disregarding the question). Also for Rent Supplement the amount allowed before being means tested is €5,000, not €20,000.

    Capital Weekly means assessed as
    First €5,000 Nil
    Next €10,000 €1 per €1,000
    Next €25,000 €2 per €1,000
    Any capital over €40,000 €4 per €1,000.
