Stovax question

Hi guys this is possibly a stupid question to someone in the know, but I have no experience with stoves!

I have a stovax studio 2 stove, it has 2 controls for air, top & bottom. When lighting the stove i have both open as air gets in and gets it going quickly. Once its lighting i close bottom control and move the top to half way closed/open but its goign through logs like a rate of knots!

I was under the impression not to close both controls but when I do it burns the logs nicely and over a long period of time. Is that ok for me to keep both air controls closed? according to the manual its not advised but if I have the controls open even a fraction it just roars through logs?

Any advice/help appreciated, and I'm sure its a stupid question but not my area of expertise ;)

If you are burning dry timber you can close both controls.
If burning coal or peat then you would require a partially open air control at minimum.

Only burning air dried logs! I presume it will just blacken the door at worst if both controls are closed?
