Epilepsy, Epilim and me......

I started Epilim on 200mg per day. This was after about 5 years in my twenties of no medication. (I'm now 56)

For the last 10 years, or so, I have been on 2 x 500mg. It is since then that my problems started.

I have been tested for bipolar and hypomania - negative in both cases, though my pattern seems to be 3-4 weeks ok; then aura (very occasionally Grand Mal) followed by headache, followed by 24-72 hours of withdrawal, feeling down, feeling inadequate, feeling loss of libido. (I'm passing gorgeous women in the street and thinking it, but not feeling anything - cut off from the waist down. Sound familiar?)

Then everything returns to normal and I'm fine again for about a month.

Recently, I was allergy tested and told to avoid wheat, dairy lactose, soya and egg white. I also cut out alcohol completely. (The Epilim withdrawal symptoms after alcohol were much worse.)

Cutting out wheat has made a huge difference to my weight. I've lost 6 kilos. :) My skin has also improved.

I was hoping it would all help my Epilim absorption. I think it has a little, but not enough. The last thing I want is to have to take more of this stuff. I hate it.

One other thing is that my once phenomenal memory has been ruined by the higher dose of Epilim. All long term memories laid down prior to this are still there. But, I remember nothing of what I do now. E.g. If I meet someone for lunch today, I'll have no recollection of it in a few days.

Years ago I was told by my first neurologist that my epilepsy was relatively benign. My problem, to be honest, is more with the medication than the condition it's supposed to be treating.

Any of this sound familiar to anyone using Epilim for epilepsy, or any other reason?

    Thanks

    D.
