I have a 5 year old german shepherd and want to switch him to raw. He had been getting occasional treats of raw lambs heats, liver etc and never had any issues. I live in Dundalk area and was wondering if anyone knows where I can get some good value meat/fish locally in Louth? For his body weight I would need to feed him approx 1kg so that's quite a bit of meat :)Thanks!

The feeding guide is 2 to 3% of body weight daily so unless you have some form of huge breed mixed in there you're going to need less than a kilo a day :P

Ideal weight for a male GSD is 30 -40kg so a kilo a day is a fair guess for feeding requirements. If the dog weighs 33kg 3% of that is 1kg.

Thanks Nody, nope he's purebred and a giant :) right now approx 43kg but would like him to keep at around 40 kg so at 2-% that's 800g to 1.2kg.. He isn't overweight by any means he's just a very big boy

Your best bet is to buy a big freezer lol :p and order from one of the suppliers. It's recommended to start with chicken or tripe for a few weeks first before adding different proteins or too much bone. You'll find if you shop around too between the suppliers the prices can really vary depending on what you're getting.

There's another one close to the boarder in NI but I can't remember the name - I thought it was something like M&A petfoods? They run a kennels and sell the food from there I think?

Perfect Thanks! Unfortunately no room for a freezer so will have to stick to smaller orders that's why was hoping to get some closer to home. I will try and find out about that place in NI buy if you ever remember the name please let me know

I only recently moved my dog over to raw - you don't need to buy in bulk.

I buy all my chubs from
Carnivore Kelly's online (website above) find them pretty good so far. You can order as little or as much as you want from them. They do a sample order costs like €8 including delivery so you can see what your getting before u commit to a bigger order etc. There where I started.

I did invest in a small chest freezer in the last few weeks, it's wired into my shed, I fit around 140 chubs in it etc. Just to make it easier for myself.

My 16kg cockers gets 200g twice per day.. half in the morning half in the evening etc. Since moving him over his is a little trimmer etc. He loves it and so far is thriving.
