Have you an opinion? Not paid enough?

I don't really know what to think. I certainly think he should be paid but Healy did campaign on the basis of only wanting to cover the cost of labour to replace him on the home farm.
Is he a Donald trump type that just said what would win votes or was he pressed into the bigger money by the others?

Has there actually been many changes made in the Ifa since the scandal?

There's been no changes, they should've cleared the whole exec board, it was their job to know what was going on even if they denied knowing and jer bergin as treasurer couldn't even deny knowing what was going on and there he is back in again......not much respect for the membership there
Wonder what the net figure is after tax on 120000 compared with the cost of employing a manager,......what's a manager worth,
After consulting professor Google it looks like his tax bill on 120000 is 50000

I wonder will the cost of a farm manager be an expense extra to the €120k.

It's hardly a surprise that farmers want to talk about the largest farming representative body in the country ?
Having a properly functioning representative body would be a huge advantage to all farmers.

What I think is that the IFA need to walk away from taking money from subs on beef/marts/milk.
Move to a membership supported organisation and cut their cloth to match that. Like other unions that could look for a weekly sub of maybe €5/8 euro a week.

It'd depend on his wife's tax credits. The farm being in profit or loss. But yes rangler I agree 100% with you on your first point. The whole board should have been cleared and possibly even some structure reform and downsizing too.

That's fine if its something new but 99.9% chance this will end up been the same arguments made by the same posters, hopefully I,m wrong(not go to follow this thread to find out, my week is going to well:-))

    Oh s*** another ifa thred:mad:

Seriously though, lets not make this into another mod/rangler baiting competition. Like the dairy threads cards are going to be freely fired out here. Before you click the submit reply button, take a minute to read over what you have typed and ask yourself 'Am I being a dick here?'

Ah that's only a bus drivers wage... a Dublin bus driver's wage anyway

If you want a person who will professional represent the views of the Irish Farmer you must pay them. 100k or there abouts is good value for money. I know people in the public and private sector earning more much less responsibility and if it were me i wouldn't pay them 10k for the work they do. The real scandal in all this was the GS pure greed of a salary expenses and pension.

I wish him the best of luck in his new role.
I sincerely hope that he can assuage ordinary members (like me) regarding the relevance of the organisation and our continued financial support into the future.
As I posted on a previous IFA thread (when the **** really hit the fan )- I will pay this years membership and give the incoming personnel a chance to redeem my faith in the IFA.

Wouldn't it be much more efficient if the IFA hired the manager for the presidents farm on a fixed term contract for the duration of the presidents term and then didn't have to pay the president? If the idea of this is to just compensate the president for having to hire a man
Now personally I think that the president should be paid - and paid a decent salary. The level of 120k seems appropriate to me, especially as a farm manager has to be paid from this

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,808 ✭✭✭✭Water John

I think the pay to the CEO and President is reasonable. €120K for President includes renumeration for other positions.
There is a figure outside of this to cover the on farm positions of the Exec Council of €238K. A handy chunk of that would be going to cover his farm manager.

Note Panch, the 120K is a salary. His farm is also covered seperately TMK.

Would any of you hand your farm over to a manager and work for the IFA for free?...bear in mind the manager could be the worst yoke that ever came into the place..you have no compensation for food, clothing, hotels, flights, car, phone and travel. You would always be away from your family. I wouldn't do it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,808 ✭✭✭✭Water John

Time away from family is the big downside. Most of the things you list KK are covered, company car etc. outside of salary.

don't have a great problem with the salary, think 100k would have been enough but not a serious grievance. think having an audi a6 as the company car is a bit rich though, plenty of fine cars out there that would be a lot less to buy and do the same job. As regards the staff, if we are to be taken seriously as a lobby group we need the best people informing us and they have to be paid right. also have my doubts about publishing their exact pay details as we should not let our enemies know how much it would cost to get them to jump ship

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,808 ✭✭✭✭Water John

It was well known that all the senior staff eg commodity Secs were on 100K+.
    That's confirmed.
If any one thinks to offer them a better package, any of them is replaceable.
CEO of most charities and unions is known. That is as it should be.

On the car size, a CEO once said he wanted a smaller car with a driver. Could arrive briefed and fresh for business.

At the end of the day he will be clocking huge miles at all hours of the day and night, the least he could get is a comfortable car. Every second agri sales rep, merchant and coop manager seems to have a German car and farmers don't mind... Can't see why lads would take issue with one of their own who is lobbying on behalf of them having a bit of comfort.

It was probably Pat Smith organised the big salaries for the staff while he was director of operations before 2009, kevin kinsella is driving 140km from birr each day so he must be one of the 200k plus

I'm putting it out there now....if I ever take on a representative job for you guys....it has to be an audi......it can be a 10 year old one, cause a 10 year old audi beats any new car hands down

I didn't post anything else since your comment yesterday and the thread has 24 comments in 24 hours. In my eyes that makes it valid Your comment leaves me with the idea that your an IFA head that doesn't want to see anything about them here because you know it's not going to be good

So ask yourself as a moderator 'am I being a dick here?'

MOD NOTE: The rule about ignoring/questioning a mod on thread is there for a reason! It helps prevent a thread from going off topic. It warrants a card on every other forum and warrants a card on here!

If posters wish to continue to discuss this topic, it would be best to remember the forum rules.

To summarise the rules, DON'T BE A DICK!

I'm closing this thread so if you wish to discuss this further, work away but do so within the rules!
