Hi guys, have a 2009 focus with the 1.6 diesel Peugeot engine (I know I know).

Was getting a smell of diesel in the last few weeks through the vents, it was slowly getting stronger.

Brought it to a mechanic today and it is an injector seal.

It is being fixed on Tuesday, what are people's experiences of driving those cars with that type of issue.

This is my first diesel.have the car almost a year and to date can't fault it.

Great car if looked after. Service before its actual time even better.

Main issues are turbo due to wrong oil or not service on time.

Was service by the main dealer in April. According to them it isn't due for another 5k mikes, getting the oil and filter done with the injector seals just to be safe.

Not an uncommon thing to happen. As long as it's nothing major (i.e. Completely caked in with carbon, it should be fine). Should not re occur or be of further issue once the cylinder is properly reamed and the cap nut isn't worn on the injector (sometimes overlooked when washers and seals are being replaced).

One seal went in mine, got it done then the turbo went due to carbon contamination in the sump oil. 2k miles later turbo went again as other seals were slightly leaking. I say replace all seals if doing one.

It was seals 3 and 4 that were one/replaced.

Car is going in now to get bushes done tomorrow as I have the nct on Saturday.

Car was serviced after the seals were done though and has been fine since thankfully.

The design of the sump is rubbish on these. Drain plug is not at the lowest point so last bit of oil (and all the crap) doesn't drain out. Well worth dropping the sump on every 3rd or 4th service and cleaning properly. Change oil frequently and use good quality oil.

Oil pipes to turbo have little filters on them which can easily block with carbon, causing premature failure and failure of replacement turbo if root cause not fixed. Hence prevention of carbon buildup in sump is a must, but easily done with proper preventative maintenance.

Fine awkward place they put the gauze filter for turbo, who ever thought that was a good place. All the four injectors should be done regardless if it's only one or two blowing.

It might have been all 4 I'm not sure. It cost me €160 all in from an indie. She gets her main dealer service as well.

The injectors are only held down with one bolt and this works slightly loose over time which allows blow by at the seal.

One of the changes made to the newer Dv6c (8 valve) version of that engine from 2011 was the injectors being held down by two bolts and by all accounts, injector seal leaks are sorted.

They learned their lessons so after the previous experience.

My car was in getting bushes done today, they gave it a once over as well and said it's sound.

Only thing he said though is to drive it up the motorway in 3rd gear and back down before the test.

My car has a DPF fitted.

    Any advice?

First NCT test with a diesel.

What speed in third gear did they suggest?

    They didn't.

    I ain't doing 75mph in 3rd gear fcuk that.

In 5th gear she does that speed at 2500rpm.

I drive from Cork city to the Tipperary border and back to give it a good run once a week regardless of where I have been.

That is a good 60/70 mile round trip.

The injectors are held down with two nuts.

Hi just wondering does anyone no if all injectors should provide the exact same amount of fuel. i had a fella check mine and he said 3 provided an even amount and one provided more fuel than the others but said this was ok... someone else told me the 4 should be the exact same so not sure who to go by. car is a bit shuttery when idling so not sure should i get a second mechanic to look at it.

Had my Focus in for inlet manifold seals today as she was leaking oil.

On stripping down the seals, they found other seals perished also.

Every seal around that area including injector seals now done..

    Cost me €300 all in.

Costs are starting to bloody mount up for a car that was fit and healthy during a main dealer service at Christmas.
