Hi all. I recently got married, and am wondering if it's worth my while changing my tax status from single? I'm trying to read up on it but it's making my head swim!

    Info about my circumstances :

Husband (32) and I (28) live in my father's house.
Husband is in receipt of BTEA of €92pw as he is in his final year of college.
I work full time, €24k per year.
No dependants but I'm due our first in January.

Firstly, nothing will change in your year of marriage, but you can ask to have a year of marriage review done once the year is over, and you both have P60s.

I would think that Joint assessment would be best for you both. As someone on here says, you can't be worse off on Joint Assessment. At least you can move around your tax credits between you (some exceptions), which may be of benefit to you while you'd be off on maternity

Thanks! Do you know if this can be done online or do I need to do it in person?

Neither - It can't be done online, but you don't have to do it in person.

The best thing you could do is read this leaflet:

    http://www.revenue.ie/en/tax/it/leaflets/it2.html

It will give ye a better understanding. In that link, there are links to the forms you need to fill out. You can post or email those in then, to have your records updated.
