just looking to see does anyone know what to do here? I am currently working in retail but want to do my passion on the side which is make up I'm not to sure about starting my own business as I don't really know how its all going to go but don't want to be not paying tax either, can I still pay taxes on what I earn without making it a official business? I know some people might think I'm crazy but at the end of the day it's my mind that is clear and not looking over my shoulder to be caught by the social and end up owing money plus it's the right thing to do for society, I will be on all social media platforms aswell so it won't be a secret, anyone any advice I would love to hear it

If you're setting up your own business you need to register for taxes. It doesn't matter whether it's an "official" business or not (I've no idea what you mean by that...if you're turning over money, then it's a business). Hobby trades, where people make money doing what is their hobby are still businesses in the eyes of the Revenue.

Your best bet though, is to visit an accountant for a chat.
