2016 Christmas Market Dublin. Is there one?

I don't see any information online about what is planned this year. 2 years ago we had the one in Stephen's Green which had potential but was poorly executed, and sadly hasn't had an opportunity to develop since. Last year we had the I believe in Christmas in the IFSC which was downright awful. What is planned for 2016?

Am going to Germany for my fill of proper markets but would still be nice to have something here too.

They just don't work here for whatever reasons. Anyway having been to the St Stephen's green one, by the time you buy something to eat and a couple of other things you'd be better off and cheaper flying to Hamburg and back and going to a real one!

The U.K. has some good ones though. Belfast apparently puts on a solid one. Why is it that Dublin's attempts are so lame? Granted we lack a central plaza/square type place, but that's no excuse for having characterless stalls (last year it was tents not stalls) with things that have nothing to do with Christmas. 2 years ago there was a Thai food stall at Stephen's Green. What's that all about? Also while in Germany and other parts of Europe, only small local business are allowed a stall, last year in Dublin, Lidl had a gigantic stall. How soulless can you get.

The IFSC is a soulless place. If we are going to do another one it must be in the city centre.

Lidl had a stall? Seriously? Yeah the Edinburgh one is pretty good. Winder Wonderland in Hyde Park is absolutely incredible but they have 10 million folk to back that up.
But yeah Dublin has no square or anywhere to put it where there would be enough footfall for people to make money. Even if they could take the cars out of Wicklow St and that area and just have stalls on the roads I think it would work, but we just don't have a good space for it right now.

Our food and drink is so different. Germans will eat sausages, chips, potatoes etc at various fairs. We have nothing similar here food wise. We dont really drink mulled wine like they do in Germany either. What small business would you like? Overpriced poor quality food and crafts?

IMO we are too different culturally to have christmas markets here and we should just accept that.

Its usually too expensive. On the continent you can sample loads of food and drink cos it's cheap. Dublin everything is lower quality and double the price.

Course we have a Christmas Market.

It's the fekkin cheapo dealers up and down Mary/Henry Street getting in the way of us trying to get in the REAL shops!

They should be banned or shunted down to the Jervis park at the back of the Church Pub.

Sorry, I detest them and their cheap knockoff tat.

    Bah humbug.

But they need a side to prop up all the dole they get already. But it's ok, they're townies, different rules apply, also lets give them a duplex in the city centre too why not, sure there parents for generations also haven't done a days work in their lives in that very area.

Nonsense. I've been to the Xmas markets in Edinburgh and Galway and enjoyed them immensely. Belfast is supposed to have a really good one too, but I've never been to it. Dublin is not much different to those 3 cities, from a cultural point of view. There is no reason at all why Dublin can't have a good Xmas Market too, with some proper thought, planning and investment. Unfortunately, they all seem to be in short suppply by the relevant stake holders.

Here the stalls and setups seem to encourage price gouging... all they see are dollar signs! It's done in such a way as to make a quick buck, but guarantee there'll be no repeat business.

In other places, they are put on with the idea of bringing people to that city, or the markets plans to be there every year. Here, the idea is, how can we shakedown the people already here.

Irish people also eat sausages and chips and drink mulled wine? Like, a lot of it.

Trying to put on a Christmas market in Saudi Arabia might be a bit of a stretch due to cultural difference. Ireland and Germany, not so much.
