Strange question I know, I've got a cow who I've been trying to get into calf for months and months, was reading up on boards and I seen someone had posted this
"I have seen heifers that went in calf come on heat 3 weeks later, not very often but it happens. I had a dairy heifer come on heat once a week as she was springing to calve "

....it's an old tread so I didn't bring it back up, but it sounds like he had seen animals be in calf, but still come a bulling? My question is, has anybody else reading this heard/seen this before? Is it even possible? cheers!

Yeah, it is possible for an animal to be in-calf and seem to be bulling, it's unlikely tho. Have you got her scanned to see if she's in-calf or has a problem such as an infection or a cyst?
Are you using a bull or Ai?

Possible but not as likely as not in calf get her scanned or checked

Hoping to get her scanned in the next few weeks (is there any difference to getting her scanned when in heat or when she not in heat?), has been treated for cysts before this and the AI man said they were gone the next time he AI'd her. Been trying a bit of everything with her, have given her receptal, gave her a vitamin bolus, gave her copper and vit E injection, an old neighbour mentioned dosing her with vinegar- done that. Have tried both AI and bulls- hereford AI, limo AI, Sim bull and CH bull... I know at this stage she's just said no and that's it, but still willing to try anything as she is the best cow in the herd, has fantastic maternal traits and although she is nearing 14 she still has a massive amount of milk!

One for the vet I think. A 14 yo cow with history of cysts and no go from natural service is not looking very optimistic. It might be worth one turn of the dice using a coil - it will cost a few bob but ask your vet he/she should know if its worth a try.

No offence, but if she wont go in-calf she's not the best cow in your herd.
At 14 years old I'd be selling her or fattening her and replacing her with a nice heifer.
If you want to keep her I don't think it makes any difference when she's scanned.

i had one scanned incalf about two months ago to twins , seen her bulling about 10 days ago or so . so checked her today with the heifers and she not incalf , she be going with the rest of the empties sat week to the mart . in your case if not in calf she owes you nothing at this stage of her life be better just to cull her .

Is a coil the same as a CIDR? Ah I know it is unlikely for her to be going back into calf, suppose in a way I got too attached to her (her dam rejected her when she was born and I ended up bottle feeding her every night in the kitchen lol). Will give her another while around the place and if she still doesn't prove will have to end up fattening her, cheers for the replies :)

PRID 'coils' and CIDR's do the same job. PRIDs are 'coils' in name only now. :)

If you're keen to keep her, talk to your vet.
