Competitions for direct entry into Revenue are run from time to time on the Revenue website. Staff are also appointment through general open competitions through public jobs.

Jobs are coming up the whole time. Familiarise yourself with psychometric testing as these are used to select who to put forward for interview.

Then at interview level, expect the interview to be competency based, with a presentation aspect also.

Am I right in guessing that you are interested working for the Collector General, rather than another division of Revenue, because of location?
If that is the case then you should realise that Revenue do have staff in other divisions outside of the CGs in both Limerick and Tipperary (where the CGs offices are).

As stated above Revenue do take staff from the general civil service panels so you might be interested in the following competition running at the moment -
HEO Auditor in the Civil Service

You can state the regions you would be willing to accept if successful in the competition. So I suppose you would have a fair chance (but no guarantee) of getting offered what you want if you do well in the competition.

If you're considering moving from the public service to the private sector some time in the future (as many do) then the office of the Collector General is the last place I'd go. Look for a position in a technically complex area of Revenue.....that will make your expertise more valuable later on....

I applied for HEO Auditor in the Civil Service recently. Application deadline closed there circa a week ago. Is this a long drawn out process even in the event of a successful application? Anybody with any previous experience re this?

I interviewed for a trainee position with the auditor general and comptroller many years ago. The process took months and months.
Step 1. Online aptitude test from home.
Step 2. Top 200 were called for onsite aptitude test.
Step 3. Top 50 or so were called for interview. Think there were six interviewers and all asked about 2 questions each.
You're probably looking at the September 2017 intake if applications just closed.
