This is a bit of a long shot, but I have to sign some documents relating to the sale of a property in Aus and it witnessed by somebody who is a qualified legal pro in Australia. The Aus Consulate cannot do it until Monday. It is urgent and need to try and get it done this evening. I am based in limerick but willing to travel to Dub etc to get it done. Please pm me with any leads.

    thanks

Suggest you contact the Australian embassy.

The requirement to have the doc witnessed by an Australian legal professional is unusual.

Check if an Irish solicitor or a notary public would suffice.

It is the paperwork for the sale of my house in Australia. The documents ask that it is an Australian registered solicitor etc. Yes the embassy can do next week but I'm working in Limerick and cannot be there. The buyer wants it done by tomorrow and I don't want to risk loosing the sale. Anyway can only do what I can do so maybe somebody might know someone.

Suggest you contact the Aus solicitor dealing with this to see if an Irish solicitor or notary public can validly witness this document.

No Budge. They are incredibly bureaucratic so they are saying aussie only. I have asked the agent to see if he can extend the contract until next Friday and then all should be ok. The aussies have commissoners of oaths setup in their shopping centres but not good enough for anyone else!

    thanks for advice

    surprised at that attitude
If the Aus Embassy here cannot help, can only suggest that your Aus solicitor check with local Aus law societies for any qualified member living in Ireland.

Am surprised a Notary Public's attestation is not acceptable

the form requires the legal person's Oz credentials/legal reg to be recorded on it. I can get it done next week at the embassy but I was trying to get it done urgently today. Being an aussie system I surprised they are not requesting somebody to witness the witness! Maybe there is an alternate form for dealing with these things overseas but as I have perm residency then I guess the want it done the aussie way. Too easy mate...

Try asking on the regional forums. There could very easily be such a person here on a sabbatical. There long service leave entitlements facilitate a lot of travel.

If you run this search through google it comes up with a few names, whether they can see you at such short notice is another question, but i wish you luck!
