Quitting full time

I have been offered a job which will go full time in a year, at the moment it will only be 1 day a week and increase by a day every 2 or 3 months. This will be a full time, long term, steady job with good pay and conditions, pension etc.

I have a full time job but it is not steady employment, I have been here 5 years but every few months we are waiting on redundancy if orders do not come in. I explained my position to my boss and he said that unfortunately I cannot go down to a 3 day week or be "phased out" any other way...... 5 days or no days, I cannot blame him it is the nature of the job.

My ( long winded) question is.... if I quit to take up this new role will I be able to sign on jobseekers allowance/benefit without losing 2 months for quitting? I cannot afford to live on 1 day a week pay for a few months so if I cannot sign on I cannot take my ideal job.
