Homeless and seeking advice?

Hi, I'm currently homeless looking for some advice as I'm totally lost at the moment I am unfortunately on disability allowance this year after having to leave my job early this year due to a few debilitating illnesses including lupus and kidney disease.. my partner is on 100€ a week Jobseeker's with a pending carers allowance. Our rent was 500€ per month which we could no longer afford, I was paying our rent from my disability to my landlords agent weekly at 125€. (I didn't know we could receive rent allowance) I have had complications and have been in and out of hospital since sept also a missed miscarriage and multiple hospital admissions and infections due to retained product led to us being late with a few payments of rent (which is not acceptable I know that) and the landlord understandably had enough, gave us our notice to quit and we gave back the keys on Friday afternoon, we have absolutely nowhere to go no family or friends to stay with, we went to the council last Friday who told us they couldn't help and weren't willing to as they deem that we are intentionally homeless. We went back there today and got told the same thing. We don't have enough money for both a deposit and a months rent in advance to rent a new property, were homeless and I have no idea or clue what to do. Can anyone tell me what they did in this situation? We've been sleeping in the airport the past few days.. My mental and physical health isn't great as it is and this is not helping I never thought I'd find myself in this type of situation.. I thought only a certain type of person found themselves in this situation Thank you !!!

Can you both get a room in a houseshare. You may have to consider not sharing together as alot of houseshares don't like couples. But its something and it's cheaper than a whole place together.

There's actually so few house shares for rent at the moment! All summer and into September there was a number of house shares for students up on rent.ie, daft.ie etc .. Now almost nothing especially where we are, but thank you so much for your advice !

Call into your local td's office. It's amazing what they can do.

You will be able to find a houseshare but you will have to look in areas further afield, Dublin is impossible but there's places elsewhere and buses to get there.
Why is your partner getting so little?

I'll have another look, thank you. He's under 25 so he gets the 100€ .

Maybe contact Mercy Law Centre, they specialise in homelessness/accommodation issues and might be able to help

What the hell is intentionally homeless? My god the council have no shame, drug users or familys or couples should not be sleeping on the streets or in airports in a modern society like Ireland, it's 2016 not 1620. I'm not saying give houses or apartments to everyone, but they should be able to put them up in a room until the situation is assest fully and either the person gets back on there own two feet or there's some intervention. Not telling them, basically 'sorry not my problem, go back to your Mas or Das gaf there, your intentenally homeless'.

It's this type of stuff that leads to all sorts of social problems. I really do wonder what I pay taxes for to be honest, when I hear these stories in contrast to our TDs priorities of getting off earlier for Christmas or to restoring there pay. Or local council representatives from DCC wondering why they are finding out about plans for Merrion Gate Railway line from the media.

Intentionally homeless is when someone has a home and has chosen not to pay rent and has been evicted as opposed to someone who is homeless through no fault of their own.

Edit-there isn't money for everyone so they do have to have rules. It's a horrible situation for anyone caught in it.

A situation where a person or persons intentionally get thrown out of accommodation by not paying rents including not passing on RA and using the eviction as a way to skip the long housing lists it's pretty common since certain former minister insisted on 50% of social housing given out was to be given to those homeless in hotels or B&Bs.

Op have neither of you's not got family that could take you in separately till your situation improves ,
Are you even on the housing list

Hi OP can you look in counties outside Dublin for house share? You could get a hostel or B&B outside of Dublin city for cheap enough until you find a room to rent

Re: emmergency accomodation there is a massive shortage especially for couples so unless you want to be separated in dormintory style hostels sharing with people who are entrenched homeless keep looking to family friends. renting(the b and bs are for fanilies) What you do need to do is ensure that the local council where you were renting accepts your application as homeless and provides you with a housing need assessment form. This will entitle you to rent allowance from a new tenancy. The problem renains that rent allowance is under market rate there is. Scheme called the housing assistance payment HAP but i dont know if youd be entitled

Everyone doesn't pay enough taxes for a decent social net. A budget is a budget and state cant give everyone what they want. We can have better services, but we will all need to pay for taxes. Most of your taxes do go on welfare programmes and not TD pay like you seem to think

By DCC representatives, do you mean the same DCC representatives who decided to cut LPT which could fund social housing by 15% for a few cheap votes? They probably heard about the Merrion Gates from the media, as most of them are useless at their job. This is the same DCC organisation who has decided to build hardly any social housing for the last two decades.

OP I know this isnt particularly helpful now. But why did you get a 90 days notice of a rent increase? You should have gotten 90 days notice of it.

Here is list of organisations who help with homeless people. I dont know of them first hand. I would phone the Cappagh day centre as I know they genuinely care about people

+1 on Mercy Law ....depending on your circumstances they can issue Judicial review proceedings against the Councils decision not to offer you emergency accommodation. Definitely make contact with them to see if you have a case

Thank you everyone for all the fantastic advice, we are staying with a family member until we can get ourselves sorted out (which unfortunately will probably take a while) but again thank you all very much!

Glad you got sorted. I'll close the thread now.
