So I came across this on adverts and as I've always liked the IWC spitfire had some interest in it. I see a pretty low offer has just been accepted on this so I won't be asking any questions. Is this either a bargain or fake? Pictures are not great, the receipt is from Hong Kong which is fine but 168,000 HKD is approx 20,000 euro and last time I was looking at a spitfire it was around 8,000 USD, box doesn't look right. I would hate to see someone get stung if it is a fake.

Never seen an authorised dealer invoice for a watch described as mechanical with no serial number model number etc. before.
No picture of the back or detailed pic of the front I wouldnt be parting with any money without alot more info

Spitfire retails at 11.9k on strap and 12.9k on bracelet in Euro

that one is 99.9999999% a fake, i could be wrong, but the box is wrong, the receipt looks fishy and the dial colour looks off.

i happen to own a genuine one by the way

if its not fake why would someone sell it for 3k when you could sell it directly to a deal for nearly double that, makes no sense at all

I reckon I could have done a better job on the stitching on the box myself :P

God love the poor fella forking out €3k for that. I hope that 'subject to inspection' will be with a dealer.

He's only accepted the 3k offer for the sake of PM.

11k??? I could have picked one up for less than 3.5k in duty free last Christmas... Chose the Aquatimer instead...

In fairness Pat (who made the offer) regularly reports fakes on adverts and will do due diligence I'm sure before he parts with 3k

yep thats the flieger chrono, 3k for that was a decent deal as well

the spitfire has an in house movement and they have put a dial in that they normally reserve for white gold watches and then decided to whack a massive premium on top.

is it a nice watch - hell yeah
is it worth its RRP - is it hell :D

then they also released this at half the price  although it doesnt hang together nearly as well imo

the 'proper' spitfire, the IW3878 is now discontinued it seems

If I had the resources, it'd be a big pilot next for me...

id like one, but maybe a little big IMO,

the 3878 i have is 43mm and 16.5mm thick which is just about big enough

I think you're right - I tried one on at Schaffhausen and, whilst admittedly I was wearing a 34mm Rolex Oyster at the time, it was ludicrously big. I also remember being in a shop in Jermyn St (an outfitters) a few years ago with a mate and watching this guy spend about 15 minutes trying to make the one he had just bought sit comfortably on his wrist - he looked like a schoolboy on his first day trying to cope with a blazer that was three sizes too big.

There are smaller pilots out now. I tried one on at a watch show in the Netherlands which was about the same dimensions as my Speedmaster. Very nice too, am giving it some thought.

I prefer the smaller ones TBH. There I said it :D

Watch in the OP was withdrawn from sale. A poster politely suggest that the seller have the watch checked out. I had tried to contact the prospective buyer but no luck.
