skybox v8 problem

Hello everyone I have been happily using my inexpensive skybox v8 for over a year now. But the other day it stopped working out of the blue ... im guessing a cut in power messed with the software so I have been trying for over a week to flash the firmware with a usb null cable but im having no luck. All the techie shops in town are just trying to push me to buy a new satellite box for 100 plus euros, I am just wondering if there is anyone out there that could give me some advice (apart from the obvious buy a better box as with kids and christmas coming that is not an option) if someone in the Clare/Limerick area that is very handy with flashing boxes I would be willing to travel too, thank you.

P.S. here is a picture of the error code that comes on after the skybox finishes loading to 100 percent.

Screen is displaying Start, which is next step.

Disconnect Null modem cable and restart box at rocker switch. Any joy ?

If it doesn't restart, unzip this firmware and flash using null modem. Make sure you are using the right firmware (ie not the combo box v8 on a normal v8 and vice versa).

Nearly certain that these are Ali 36xx range and are impossible to kill, but a nightmare to sort as there are clones out there which have different firmware)
