I recently got a 03 rx8 and from reading many forums and articles came to the conclusion that non synthetic mineral oil was to be used in the engine . However I went to my local mazda dealer today and he gave me a 5w30 fully synthetic oil and told me that's the oil they always use to service a rx8 .
I'm very confused by all this . Will the fully synthetic damage my engine . Read stories about it breaking down the apex seals in the engine due.
Any help will be greatly appretiated

Have been using 10w40 semi synthetic oil for the past four years without issue, return the 5w30. Most engine builders in the UK recommended 10w40 over the 5w30 to prolong stationary gear bearing life.

The issue with synthetic oil is that as it's injected into the combustion chamber it won't burn cleanly resulting in carbon build up.

Is this not a old myth about the older general synthetic oils ? As the burn temperature of the oil is easily within what I would think is a acceptable level looking at the temperature in the rx8 engine .
Never understood this . Synthetic oil is completely manufactured where as mineral could have small Ash particles etc in it so I would have thought that would have been worse for the delicate engine .

    Plenty of reading here.

I have read plenty of debates on the issue and in the end the easiest way around the whole thing is to fit a Sohn adapter and use 2 stroke oil for the OMP as lots of people, me included, have done.

The difference is that all Synthetic oils are not all the same, PolyAlphaOlephins PAO are highly refined Mineral oil, Ester based oils are synthesized.
They both have different properties with regard to viscosity, miscibility etc etc.
Its really not as simple as Synthetic vs Mineral or even PAO vs Ester.
In fact you could read volumes about the differences and similarities are between those two types alone.
