What car?

So another thread on what car to buy.

I currently have an 08 Skoda Octavia, 1.9 Ambient. Lovely car and has suited me well for the past few years. But now I am retired I don't drive big distances. So what would be a good replacement. I test drove the new Octavia 1.6 diesel and they seemed underpowered. So what do folks think?
    • Just two adults, no kids.
    • Diesel or petrol?
    • What about insurance? Is there much difference between diesel and petrol cars?
    • I'm thinking of 2012 0r 2013.
    • Budget of up to €13.5k
    • Would like the comfort of the current Octavia for those occasional long trips.

I'll probably buy in UK or NI as I've done this for the last two cars I bought so budget to reflect that.

    Thanks

if you your current car, why bother changing it?

Keeping the 08 makes sense I think. It's old tech and you like the car.

It's developing a few niggles and looking a bit tired. Also from 2018 it'll need NCT annually. So seems like a good idea to sell now.

It's an 08 car but I do plan to get a newer one in the next little while so any suggestions as to what might be best would be great.
